Assuming he doesnt come back (he will), what's his legacy? RyGa was his best win and that happened with a catchweight and rehydration clause. RyGa has since been beaten by a limited Rolly and earned a DQ for cheating versus Haney. Most had Tank LOSING to Roach and many also had Tank LOSING or earning a Draw against Pitbull. In both of those fights Tank was given DEI knockdown-callbacks so he didnt lose a point. Will Tank be remotely remarkable in 5-10 years? Or just another protected pawn that feared everyone else...ducked old Loma, Teo, Haney, Shakur, and even ducked a non-dehydrated RyGa... Thoughts?
Yes, his opponents have panned out of “somebodies,” not “nobodies,” and he’s the only guy to stop several of them.
A lot of unfulfilled potential… but still a very good fighter. In hindsight, we should have known earlier than we did based on his moving up in weight so quickly… …He’s a tiny 140, and a small 135, so a lack of discipline could be seen early on.
I actually forgot all about that - and I remember thinking it’s a bad sign for the future at the time.
A cherrypicking clown who managed to avoid all the top guys in what was a very strong division. Nothing more than an overpaid prospect IMO.
Waste of talent. Headcase. Protected. Woman beater. Guy who got more chances than he deserved and pissed them away. These are Tank's legacies so... Take your pick.
He will be remembered more for his idiotic actions outside of the ring than anything he did inside of it.
Even the win against Garcia has a big asterisk next to it for me. Garcia is not an elite fighter, but he was boiled down to within an inch of his life; he looked incredibly unwell in the ring. Drawing with Roach and nearly losing to Pitbull are not the signs of a fighter with any sort of solid legacy in the sport. He could've been great, but his mental health issues and behaviour outside of the ring ultimately got the better of him and will define him, that's if he doesn't return. He still has time to turn it around, but I can't see it.
Yeah pretty much this. He had a lot of talent and could’ve been great if he wasn’t such a mental midget. His fan base are a bunch of ass clowns.
Tank's power was absolutely legitimate, and he had some genuine, subtle skill to go along with it. Unfortunately, we'll never know what his actual ceiling is/was.
