Will The British Support Khan Or Maidana To Win?

exactly. Boxers are representing their nationality. You could say the same thing about football players. Do the England football team represent England anymore than Khan or Haye or Froch represent England? No. It's all labels, that's all. Just because you have a flag on your shirt and your team is called "England", that don't mean ****. Not that I'm saying you should support them because of that. You should support whoever you like/admire and someone you can relate to. Someone you feel that represents YOU. I won't feel like I can relate to someone just because they're from the same country as me, whether it's a boxer, football team or whatever else. That's bull****, and the reason it doesn't make sense is because in this country, often that's the ONLY thing people have in common (it's not really but it appears that way and it's too much work to try and look for common ground). People are much more likely to support someone from the same background as them-social class, ethnicity etc because that way they'll most likely have more in common. Hatton is an example. He made the working class guy feel like he was one of them.

 

If i'm gonna side with one fighter over another, which is not often. It's usually based on their skillset, personality/mentality in terms of what they mean to the sport looking ahead with future match-ups etc. and them being British comes last, but still plays a part. Some fighters though you just develop a certain affection and soft spot for, for whatever reason.

Since Maidana is Neanderthal in terms of his skillset, doesn't interest me in future match-ups with big players like Bradley, isn't particularly charismatic with a big following, which 'helps' boxing, him being overrated and Argentine to boot. All means i'll be rooting for Amir to stay on his P's and Q's and treat Marcos how he deserves to be treated.

 

Where else do you suggest they gain an idea if not on a forum?

great post. the thing about this fight is that khan as long as he concentrates for 12 rounds SHOULD win. khan seems like a decent enough kid who can be sometimes stupid at worst and sometimes naive. boxing needs big fights and anyone who wants that should want khan to win

Plenty of my mates who are casual fans (at best) watched Khan's last fight and all of them were supporting
