But, the thing is, boxing is SOOO limited compared to MMA. In MMA you have to be able to deal with so many hugly different styles that it is not necessarily a bad thing to have a strong strong base that you can rely on, that you spent years perfecting. I do appreciate that not all boxers are the same and that, in fact, some boxers would be considered vastly different than others stylistically, but it is not even close to the same as MMA. The difference between a slick counter puncher and a brawler, a rangy fighter who relies on a 1-2 or a boxer-puncher with a good left hook, is not even close to the same difference between a muy thai fighter and a ju jitsu fighter. No matter who you are fighting in boxing you are fighting a guy who is going to try to not get punched by you (or, I suppose, not care if they are Ricardo Mayorga) and try to punch you back. Because of this it is refined down to a very very very small minutia that allows for the creation of what you call "elite" fighters. MMA, I think, is too varied, too unpredictable, and too meritocratic (you don't have nearly as many champions or top flight guys who get easy fight after easy fight, and fighters don't have as much say in who they fight) for many "elite" fighters. That's why when they come around (GSP, Fedor) they are so very special.
something is wrong with my explorer and everytime i click on it the screen freezes HENCE i asked for the website wise ass
I'm glad UFC gets next to no exposure here. I've never seen any MMA in the papers or on the news, and hopefully it will stay that way
No way. You can learn some basic takedown defense to give yourself a chance in MMA, not everyone is an elite wrestler. In fact the majority of MMA fighters don't have legit credentials as elite competitors in other combat sports...but those that do, especially wrestlers can dominate. There is no reason that a young, prime boxing based fighter can't come to MMA if he cross-trains. Its already happened with Cro Cop as a kickboxer cross-over. The main reason a lot of boxers and kickboxers have failed in MMA is because they were old/shot/looking for a paycheck/never bothered to cross-train. A top level MMA fighter crossing-over to being a top level boxer is almost impossible. You need to start training boxing at a very young age, same way all the MMA fighters without wrestling backgrounds would get schooled in amateur wrestling.
There is no real amateur MMA circuit. All those cookie-cutter boxer-wrestler, well rounded future MMA fighters will still get dominated by elite, refined combat sport fighters (especially wrestlers) who can make the transition to MMA. In 20 years time, if the sport finally pays its fighters, most MMA champions will probably be Olympic wrestlers, with maybe a few elite kickboxers/boxers.
A new era is coming. Guys will enter MMA with MMA backgrounds not boxing etc They will have amateur records and already know what works and what doesnt.
Man up? It is the "boxing only" idiots that are threatened by MMA. The boxers are the ones talking the major shitage.
