Christ! I said his record can be critized, I was just making the point about Otkke. Jones was also fighting more then his share of poor fighters at that time and he didn't seem in any rush to fight Calzaghe either.

Difference is Roy Jones was p4p #1, he didn't have anyone to go after. Same as Mayweather now. Hatton went after the #1 guy, even if it was away from home and weight up. Joe didn't. Simple as. Thank God for Hatton.
Did you read the posts above? At a time when RJJ had already moved up to light heavy, Calzaghe was 19-0, had been a pro for less than 3 years and was fighting at domestic level. edit: not that I'm saying Calzaghe shouldn't have taken more risks in his career generally.
I'll be at thecity of manchester stadium, watching the fight. I only live half an hour up the road. Then after the fight have a good drink in manchester.
a division up, so what? Hatton isn't a welterweight - it doesn't stop an ambitious fighter. Clinton Woods fought Roy in 2002; Joe fought Brewer, Jimenez and Pudwill.
**** this. this is an undefendable move by hatton. on the sky sports boxing page it has a quote.. "This will not be a two o'clock in the morning fight - this will be timed for the fans in the stadium and those watching on Sky. I can't wait to fight in front of my home crowd again - it's going to be a great night." if he's doing it for the fans it should be on regular sky at the very least. it will have to be an amazing undercard for me to buy this PPV. not the usual matthew hatton bollocks!
True well it says two world title fights on the undercard and now with him signed with GBP it might happen. U never know we could have witter V paulie. With the winner fighting hatton next, Well I can dream.
I could play this game and show you a few of Jones' lean years, both guys were at fault for not making the fight happen. I'm going to stop now anyway as I don't want to start defending Calzaghe's level of competition which should have been better. The point I was trying to make was that the Jones fight not coming off isn't a great example of him ducking but I will agree that he should have done much more to make the big fights happen between the Eubank and Lacy fights.
It is Calzaghes on fault that he never fought at elite level sooner, not anybody elses. He good have given up the SM/W belt and gone to LH/W and got into Mandatory position for Roy Jones just like Woods did.
Hatton may aswell go body punch every single one of his fans and steal there £15 face to face. I'd rather go to the gym and watch some kids fight for free.
