Williams-Hopkins at 170?

I like Williams but I think that Hopkins is too crafty and too skilled to exchange with Williams and he will bring Williams' punch count down alot just like he did Calzaghe and unlike his fight with Calzaghe, Hopkins' right hand and left hook would play a bigger part than Williams' activity.

"Paul Williams is hoping to come up to 168?" responded Hopkins when told of Goossen's comment. "That would be fantastic. That would be great. I would love it. I'd love it. It's a fight that people would want to see. I think TV would love it. I think it would be a situation, can Bernard Hopkins derail another up-and-coming star?"


Stepping into The Executioner's lair is a trap into which more than one highly touted fighter has fallen -- most recently middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik, who was schooled by Hopkins last October. But to land the big fight he craves, it is a step Williams may feel he has to take.


First, of course, he has to get past Wright. But if he does, Hopkins may well be ready and waiting for him.


"I think it's crazy," said Hopkins of Williams' travels through the weight classes. "I think it's a stress on the body. But if he wants to make it happen, come on."

 

I don't think Hopkins is looking to fight any young fighters and the way he acted with Adamek, seems like he's looking for an easy fight that he can make money off of.

He already declined to fight Chad Dawson ...

 

Hopkis would catch him with that right hand. It isn't like Willams can't be found and given the size difference I think you have to go with a KO.

this is assuming we are going by the Nard that fought Pavlik and not the inactive guy that fought Calzaghe.

But if Hopkins took this fight then he is a ***** because there is a qualified guy by the name of Chad Dawson that he is avoiding.

I can see Paul Williams jabbing his way to a points decision on this one... Ex will then tie him up and hold him, but the points would've have been piling for a close but unanimous win for PW... Ex would be too old for a young up-and-comer.

 

This is a fight Williams needs to avoid just like Winky should've avoided in 2007. Just way above his ideal weight. And it will show. I hope PW isn't dumb enough to get trapped into this fight.

I see Hopkins imposing his natural size advantage and ripping into the body of Williams inside. If he's not on the inside, i see him circling and moving and staying out of Williams' range just like he did against Calzaghe, Pavlik and Tarver. He will dictate distance and hopefully the pace also but given PW's workrate and hand speed, that might not be the case at all times. That lead right hand will find a home regularly.

Hopkins close UD or TKO late.

 

170 is out of PW's best weight anyway but i'd say Hopkins even back at 160...

 

Williams should stay the **** out of anything north of 160lbs.
(Even in fantasy, His chances get slimmer, get it...)
