Stillman's in N.Y. was the greatest, (HOFers every place you turned) but 5th St. had zannies hard to keep on a leash.
That's kind of what I meant. It just sounds like a the most fun boxing gym imaginable. Between Pep and Ali alone...... Did they have trainers there who just taught amazing footwork, or was that something that Pastrano, Pep and Cassius had before they got to %th Street Gym? And thanks for taking the time to answer these questions which im sure you've had to answer a million times already.
Nobody taught Pep, Clay 'n Pastrano anything, N. They did whatever-the-**** they wanted, 'n Angelo was grateful they didn't change the architecture of the building.
I'd give everything I own to have witnessed those 3 training in the same building. Mentioning Pastrano, I work with a guy who's dad actually fought and beat Willie. Scottish Light Heavyweight called Chic Calderwood.
Your stomach would hurt from laughin' so hard, M...Wasn't anything they wouldn't do for a laugh, 'specially Pep, who did stand-up 24/7.
One of my alltime favorite fights with two guys that I have the ultimate respect for..two guys who defined the word "skill".
Incidently, I'm aware that my thing for this fight may be, to some other posters, a sign of weirdness..like I'm a masochist or something..it's been considered by many a rather forgettable snoozer between two boring fighters who never supplied much in the way of "thunder, blood and gut"..but hey, whatever..whatever turns you on, or dosen't turn you on..I love the technical, tactical, stylish side of the sport more than anything else..and those great fights of that kind from back in the old 15 rounder times.
