winky got starved of big fights for so long i would have thought he woulkd want to cash in more than he has.

it's pretty weird that he prices himself out of fights now that he can land them.

 

Today between the long layoff and his love for Krispy Kreme, Winky would never make the weight. Prime for prime I'd take Winky and wouldn't think twice. Just picture the first 4 rounds of Margo/Clottey for a full 12 and that's what we would see.

 

Margarito is totally ineffective at 154 or in any fight where he doesn't have a major size advantage over anyone. Winky would do him like he did Tito and I'd put money on Cory Spinks to do him like he did Mayorga.

 

Now lets see. Winky can't punch hard at all. Margarito takes a tremendous punch. Unless you have good boxing skills, AND hit hard no way you can beat Margarito. Plus Margarito likes to fight in extremely close quarters which I believe will nulify Winky's long jab. Not to mention Winky does not move at all. And what makes it worse for Winky is that his defense will work against him. He will get in to his shell and Margarito will catch him up the pipe with uppercuts to the head and body. Margarito would wear him down and stop him in the second have of the fight. You need to be quick against Margarito. And I mean the quick of a fighter who can hit well and is able to take pressure for 12 rounds.

1. Winky doesn't punch with KO power, that is no secret. He doesn't even try to. But he does hit hard, and his shots are stiff. Nobody just walks through them....ask Jermain Taylor if he hits "soft". He is also bigger then Margo and will have weight on him. He will be hitting Margo with stiff, quick, CLEAN shots to the head and body consistently. Margo will be taken out of his rhythm by these shots and be more then bothered.

2. Floyd, Hops, Toney and maybe JMM. Those are the only active boxers with pure boxing skills on par with Winkys. He is top of the food chain in that area...and we already went over the "power" issue. You don't need to stun, or KD someone to disrupt them and Winky's game is based off disruption.

3. Ok I think you're underestimating Winky. He isn't lost or uncomfortable fighting at a close distance at all. He utilizes his hooks and body shots very well. But.....you are also ASSUMING that Margo can make Winky fight his fight, why? Winky is bigger, better and more experienced...I can just as easily say Winky likes to fight from a distance and Margo will get picked apart. Cotto couldn't keep Margo off he would back up and then try and retreat laterally. Winky won't back up, Margo will walk right into his guard and get pushed back himself.

4. False. He can move. He fights economically though. And he was moving in the Taylor fight....moving forward.

5. Winky does not fall into a "helpless" shell ever. yeah he keeps a high guard and blocks shots rather then slip but he is always looking to counter. And his hand positioning and style of punching allows him to counter very well and quickly. If Margo begins or attempts to rain shots down on his high guard and body he will be woken up by a shitstorm of counters to his head and body all night long.
