Winky Wright wants Pavlik

And yet Pavlik is fighting Espino who got beat by Edouard? Imo i still think Wright could beat Pavlik. Yes Wright is now past his prime but even at his age i still think he can beat Pavlik. Pavlik throws alot of punches like Williams even though Pavlik hits harder but Pavlik doesn't throw punches from every angles like Williams does. Remember Trinidad hits 20 times harder then Williams and Wright easily embarrass Trinidad.

I agree with you that the simple triangulation of common opponents rarely leads to good fight analysis. However, Pavlik and Wright have 3 common opponents for a total of 9 fights. We'll throw BHop out because Winky should have never been at 170, and KP's injury and illness were well documented. That still leaves us with two common opponents and 7 fights to look at. In each and every case Pavlik performed way better than Winky.

You mentioned all the guys who couldn't knock Winky out, but you forgot to mention the well known fact that Pavlik has stopped at least 5 guys who had never been stopped before. At least two had never been seriously hurt in a fight, and at least one had never even been knocked down.

Pavlik is to big, to strong, to active, and to tough for Winky. Always has been and always will be. A philly shell is not the way you deal with KP. I layed out the perfect fight plan to beat Pavlik long before the Hopkins fight. Oddly enough, Hopkins did almost exactly what I said a fighter would need to do against KP. Winky can't do it. He loves to talk, but he's had at least 5 chances to fight Pav, and always turned him down.

I'd love to see Pavlik/Williams with Winky/Sturm on the undercard. Pavlik would run the PW hype train right off the rails, and Winky would grab one more world title. That would make Winky relevant again, and maybe he'd be able to fund his retirement by shuttning the **** up and actually stepping in the ring with Kelly.

 

Or he will quickly be reduced to glorified Tomatocan Status where he belongs..:good

If you watch boxing, you would know already Wright don't belong in the smw division. Wright belongs in mw or if he can make the weight, at 154 pounds.

 

If Winky would actually stay active then he'd be a serious threat to Pavlik. But the aging and inactive Winky would get beat up by Pavlik. He'd give Pavlik some problems early but eventually Pavlik would probably start to wear him down. Pavlik by ud.

 

I'm a fan of both guys, and I think it's really to bad that it never happened. Take Winky from the Taylor fight, and Pavlik at his best, and brother you got a fight right there. An offensive machine against a defensive wizard, great fight. However, I think it's now past its expiration date.
