Wlad/Lennox - Why The Hypocrisy ?

And Emmanuel Steward was saying the opposite before the fight, saying him and Lennox didn't need to acclimatise because they did so much international travelling. What an idiot !

Lennox beat better opposition than Wlad IMO.

 

Number of fights means little really. Quality over quantity anyday. Hard to agree with your second statement. Outside of Klitschko Purrity has no signifcant wins, whereas Mcall does. Purrity was certainly a trial horse with a great chin, but I wouldnt classify him on the level of Mcall skillwise.

 

I think you're right to a degree Purrity had good power, chin and a tight guard. I also think his win over Wlad was very legit, Wlad didnt get injured or just gas out, Purrity broke him down in the second half of the fight and hurt him. Thats why Wlad didnt go for a rematch right way like he should have done. BUT on the flip side Purrity was slow and lazy as molasses, he wasnt that good just tough and heavy handed. Wlad should really have gone for a rematch within a year and not given his big brother the job of fighting his battles

Also, Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman were both much better fighters than Ross Purrity. I'd say McCall was better than Brewster and Sanders too.

Plus Lewis lost only twice, Wlad three times.

Also, the manner of their defeats is different. Lewis's complacency meant he was twice poleaxed by huge single shots. Wlad's stoppages were not merely complacency followed by an inability to recover from a huge, opportunist heavyweight hook. See below:

Clubbing, grazing blows from a mediocre fighter and he falls to pieces. I find this harder to forgive.


I am a recent convert to Wlad, after how he thoroughly dominated a very good fighter in Chagaev. But I'm sorry Russell, I don't agree that there is a hypocrisy. Lewis is rated more highly because he was a better fighter with a better career, and his losses were not as damaging to his greatness IMO.

 

Probably the ulitmate gatekeeper to the top ten.

 

I don't see what hypocrisy there is, the simple fact is that Lewis was a better fighter than Wlad and esb is full of people who refuse to accept it because they only know or care about the Klitschko's. The sane posters (who seem like a minority sometimes) quite rightly argue them down, until the next alias appears and it all starts again.

 

Purrity isnt good enough to be a top 10 gatekeeper, but its not like fighters need to fight a top10 fighter or top15 fighter to get a shot these days
