Ran a search, but couldn't find a thread with a poll. Your thoughts? I gotta go with Wlad. Just too big and long. That said, Marciano could fight inside like nobody Wlad ever faced, by a long shot. Interesting thought would be to give Marciano some modern training and bulk him up to 205 or 210. He walked around that heavy, and he had a good frame; a little muscle would be easy to acquire.
I love the Rock, but even with that 15 lbs, he was there to be hit, and his power wouldn't translate into anything near the shots Wlad has taken from the likes of Peter, Sanders, or Brewster. Matter of fact, I'd liken Marcianos power to that of a Chagaev or an Ibragmiov.
Yeah, I know cuz the ancients were soooooooo much better than the modern day, scientifically trained masters of their craft. People think that the pioneers of this sport are invincible, and IMO I liken them to Babe Ruth. How many homers would he have hit off Randy Johnson, Cliff Lee, Roger CLemens, and Roy Halliday. He'd probably be playing in some tavern league softball team.:rofl
I dunno. Boxing has gained a few things in terms of modern training, but they mostly reside in knowledge of physiology (Marciano was afraid of becoming "muscle bound"). Boxing technique has been lost. "The ancients" were by and large much better boxers than today's fighters (who may or may not be better athletes).
wlads nearly a foot taller and over 50 lbs heavier and im not sure of the reach advantage but its deffintly over a foot
Marciano was a small cruiser for todays standards.... Marciano is obviously much greater but has no chance in a head to head.
Yeah, that makes me pick Wlad, but I can actually see that midget tank Marciano pulling this crazy **** off. (And that's based on what Marciano could actually do, not the Rocky mythology).
I kindof disagree. Michael Spinks wouldve boxed the ears off of Marciano, Dempsey and Loius. Pure boxing ability. But the moment either would nail him flush, down he'd go. Same goes for RJJ. His lone HW win over Ruiz was a fukking clinic. I can't think of any HW, including Ali with better overall boxing skill. Yet if he fought George Foreman or Larry Holmes, Lewis, Tyson, Klitschko etc, he'd be KTFO EARLY. Now, we've got Wlad Klitschko, with a comparable jab of Larry Holmes, comparable power of George Foreman, and footwork like no other big man in history. Unfortunately for him, he's soooooo long, that he has huge gaps in his interior defense, and is susceptible to being KOd inside. I think diets, weight training, financial incentives to basically live in the gym, and the natural evolution of man make for BETTER fighters. Although heart and hunger do beat all those intangibles I relayed.
wlads way too big fights not even fair marciano wouldnt even be a heavyweight today, wlad could hit him with the left hook and marciano wouldnt be anywhere in his punching range , i expect this thread to get stormed with anti klitschko fans , and marciano fans saying the marciano chops him down in 3 rounds but the fact is wlad is way way too big for marciano
People can roast me all they want but a small guy like Marciano who will be in front of Wlad, with an offensive mind like Rocky has? Wlad tko 10 Awesome fight, but wlad just too big and too good. Theres going to be those that think nobody can beat the old timers, or that wlad sucks so bad that anyone and everyone will beat him in these fantasy fights, but for me personally, Wlad controls most of the fight, and the damage starts to catch up and he is able to stop Rock in the latter part of the fight.
Diet and weight training go to what I said about physiological knowledge (which has certainly increased incredibly since the '50s). The result has been better athletes. But you can't discount what has been lost in terms of technique. Fighters today are less well-rounded; they don't slip punches, roll the shoulder, feint, or fight out of clinches nearly as well as fighters in the 40s or 50s. There are boxers today who do many of these things well (they often get termed "old school"), but there are so few boxers now who have something of all those skill sets.
--------- Well, Marciano used to eat a lot of punches. I think this is especially dangerous against Wlad Klitschko. In Klitschko-Marciano, Rocky would probably receive the strongest punches he has ever eaten. The weight and height difference is just too much. Marciano would not have leverage to punch Wlad in the face properly. Wlad would probably cut the ring and punish Rocky, who would target the body of his rival. However, it would be very difficult to land many body punches due to the size difference and Wlad's defense. And it would be even more diffcult for Rocky to land a punch on Wlad's face. KLITSCHKO UD12 or LATE TKO.
