Marciano does well against Wlad two of the guys that beat Wlad were come forward fighters like Marciano with high work rates and good chins, and Marciano's style of crouching low would work even better against a fighter of Wlad's height. Certainly Marciano is better than any fighter Wlad has fought before.

Not coming forward was Haye's mistake but then again he would have been on the canvass more than he was but for a different reason.

The size, plus Wladimir's skill is way too much. The heaviest opponent Marciano ever faced of any significance was Joe Louis, who weighed 213. Of course by that time Louis was 37, completely washed up, and only fighting to try and pay off the taxes he owed.

    Wladimir
    6'6.5
    245lbs
    81 inch reach

    Marciano
    5'11
    188lbs
    67 inch reach

Wladimir is +7.5 inches in height, +57lbs, and +14 inches in reach.
Now that alone means nothing. However, Wladimir isn't just big, he's extremely skilled. Wladimir by KO anytime he wants.

    I disagree.

First of all, the fighters that beat Wlad were much bigger than Marciano.

Secondly, and most important, is that 2010 Wlad has a differente style than 2003 Wlad. Due to styles, Rocky Marciano could land a miracle punch and beat 2003 Wlad. However, 2010 Wlad would not fight in that way.

Not really. B-class dudes back in the 50s had more well-rounded skill sets than today's A-class fighters, especially in the heavy weight division.

Sanders is 6'4'' tall, and weighed in at 225lbs...

Ross Purrity is 6'3'' tall, and weighed 250lbs.... wlad gassed.

Lamon Brewster is 6ft 2'' and weighed 220lbs, and was very nearly stopped himself before Wlad gassed.

Far cries from being 5'10'' tall and weighing 200lbs

On top of all that, Wlad gassing like he did against Ross and Brewster, would never happen to todays wlad (maybe once his age starts catching up with him, he will start gassing again) so, the size of Purrity, Sanders, and Brewster, combined with Wlad isnt the same fighter today as he was when he lost to them, kinda nullifies any point made of the similarity of just 'bringing the fight to wlad'

The only old timers that could beat Wlad are Joe Louis and Jack Johnson.

Wlad would KO Dempsey, Marciano, and primitive fighters like Corbett, Sullivan or Jeffries.

I am talking about the 2006-2011 versions of Wlad: an athletic, defensive, strong jabber that patiently hunts his victim, with no hurry for a KO.

I'd take a prime Jersey Joe Walcott over Wlad.

Nope, all those guys get beat by Wlad. Horribly beat by Wlad. The fighters of today have refined boxing and conditioning. The rules have changed as well. You can't just win by defense alone nowadays and you can't wait on top of your opponent to knock him down repeatedly. Glove technology today also made KOs much less easier to produce unless you have abnormally great punching power. Wlad also was never knocked down by a super very light guy in an exhibition match. It took heavy giants with strong chins to KO Wlad as well (Wlad always tried to stand up, most of his KOs were stoppages IIRC, two caused by gassing out).

There is no heavyweight before Liston arrived that could successfully challenge Wlad or Vitali.

    That's a very interesting fight. I admire Walcott's style.

I was about to mention that Wlad vs. Walcott would be even.

Against Tunney or Charles it would be also close. But I think the size difference (and Charles' chin) would end up in a Wlad KO result, or a decision against Tunney.

In a 1952 Marciano vs 2003 Klitschko match, Rocky can TKO him. Dempsey would also be dangerous against that offensive version of Wlad.

Wlad's just too big and strong. Marciano's an ATG and all, but the size disparity is too great and I think he gets tagged too much by Wlad to last.

Agreed. And nostalgia is human nature, it's scientifically proven that humans look upon past events, figures, things from childhood, etc... as superior to today. It creates a satisfying feeling, a comforting feeling. So I understand where they are coming from, I get it.

But that's all it is. It's just nostalgia. Nothing more.

Wladimir (and many other modern heavyweights) would wipe the floor with these guys.

With today's training Marciano would be even stronger that he was. This a difficult fight but the relentless pressure Marciano brings to a fight would ask questions of Wlad. By fighting from a crouch and always coming forward would have Wlad having trouble setting his feet to punch. Wlad is a stick and move fighter and Marciano is a relentless pursuer, It would be a great fight.

Haye's counter punching style is wrong for him against someone like Wlad, Wlad goes jab jab right then moved out of range before a fighter can counter. A pressure fighter is different Wlad goes jab jab right then moves but the pressure fighter has moved to and Wlad has to clinch or jab and move again Wlad is a far superior fighter the man who lost to Purrity and Brewster but this still how to defeat him, as Haye said take him out of his comfort zone.

Indeed, Marciano would be a lot more dangerous under modern training. But that's also speculation.
