Guys, this isn't a small town "ballroom boxing" event we are talking about. When you have these mega fights with 40,000+ in attendance, securing the training facility, arena, etc... takes a lot of work to match it all up and get a date.
I would have hoped this fight was off for good. Really no need to reschedule this. When will Thompson get his mandatory shot?
But they have to sort it out! Vitali needs dates also because he maybe gets the bigger fish in david haye!
I agree, Wlad should scrap Mormeck and move on with clearing any mandatories, maybe by then a more legitimate fight presents itself.
Was thinking the same thing. Also the fight rescheduled for March is only going to be allowed if the IBF extends their Mandatory date for Thompson. So Wlad's 2012 has gone from looking something possibly like, Thompson/ Arreola or less likely Helenius or Fury/ and ending it with Povetkin. To Mormeck/Thompson/ and now probably just Arreola. Since Povetkin will always try to find some way around the fight and Helenius seems to have lost his appeal for now. I keep mentioning Arreola's name because his was the one being most mentioned for the date of the original Mormeck fight. And he has the American/Mexican appeal and win streak.
I'm of the mind he should just move on from Mormeck, it was a stay busy fight anyways that nobody really wanted to see. So now we all have to wait 4 months more for it? I actually hope the IBF doesn't let him skip his mandatory or strips him if he does. There is better fights out there now to be made than Mormeck.
Totally agree. But I can't help but feel bad for Mormeck and Chisora(last year, even if Chisora is a bipolar piece of ****). Being so close to the biggest fight of your career, and supposedly training so hard for so many weeks, the commitment and sacrifices they have had to make to prepare, just to have it be worthless. Even if they weren't going win, which they weren't, they'd at least have been paid for the work they put in.
Wlad really really needs to move on! Mormeck would have not fought in more than a year! I know he busted his ass in training but everybody knows he has no chance against wladimir!
Really no point in rescheduling this fight at all. Mormeck was a weak opponent and now Wlad should just move on from this. He should face Thompson instead, noone is overly excited about a Thompson rematch but its a much much better fight than Mormeck and Wlad has to face him anyways. Wlad has a limited amount of fights left since he's closing in on 36 and doesn't need to waste one on a mismatch like Mormeck. I'm not crazy about Wlad pulling out of more fights than he's actually been in lately. Is it a sign he's showing his age, jerking guys around, or something else?
