I sort of agree. If Wlad can beat guys like Valuev, Povetkin, Ruiz and Golota, then I'd have to say maybe yes. I'd give Peter a 2nd chance too, even though I believe he'd lose again.
I think he can become an all time great but needs some more wins before it happens. I don´t think being in a weak era makes it impossible to become an ATG. Larry Holmes did it by staying on top for a very long time. If Wlad stays mostly undefeated for a long time to come, can beat Peter again and Valuev and take one or two more belts, regardless of whether he vacates his current ones or not, I´d say he´s an ATG or at least close to it. If Wlad can beat both Peter and the Valuev/Chagaev winner, or whoever ends up as WBA champ, beat Haye and Povetkin and have a few more wins without losing and stay as champ till 2011 or longer, I´d say he´s in for sure.
I see it the opposite way. Four belts is too many. There is NEVER going to be a unified champ again. wlad is going ot have two mandatories a year as it is, and how is he going to get into the constipated WBC picutre, or break that belt-held-hostage situation in the WBA?
Lennox did it. You can get an exemption from mandatories in order to fight for another title. Besides, if you win a title then get stripped because of obvious political BS, you will still be recognized as the champ. Most fans are smart enough to see through garbage mandatories, which is why Lennox was universally recognized champ even when Byrd and Ruiz held belts. You have to win the belt first of course.
Head to head Wladimir is a tough fight for anybody in history. I'm certainly not saying he'd win all of them but he'd be a live dog against anybody. So would Tyson, Lewis & Vitali for that matter.
Unification is the key. :deal If Wlad can unify the 4 main belts, IBF, WBC, WBA & the WBO then historically he'll be ranked top 10 or at least top 15.
Good point but there's zero motivation for the sanctioning bodies to allow this. Especially if Don King or any other shady promoter is involved in any way.
I'd say he's borderline now. Problem is the HW division is just ****. Even by beating the top guys (if that happens), it's still a resume that only looks good compared to the other HW's fighting today.
If he aquires another title, I think he is porbably a consideration for the hall of fame. And if he unifies ALL the titles once Vitlai bows out in a couple years, he'll certainly be hall fo fame worthy. Wlad is one big, strong, talented guy who has overcame his bump in the road a few years back, and is taking out some good fighters these days, one after the other..........with a mere decision win being a rare happeneing..........he usually puts them on their back, before sending them home.
Lesser fighters are in the hall right now. Joe Louis, another favorite of mine, fought in a very weak era for Heavyweights but he cleaned them out and that's what Wlad is doing. One guy at a time. The Holmes, Dempsey & Marciano eras weren't anything special, in fact I think the pickin's were far worse than now.
