Look, I wish he would just retire so the division can move on. He's been around a very long time. Inevitably he's had some Mormeck's and Lepai's. But he's also had Peter, Brock, Ibragimov, Haye, Povetikin, Chambers, Thompson, Chagaev, Byrd, Brewster… all guys who were pretty damn good and given a decent chance of winning. How he did it has not always been pretty. But he did it.

True. Inevitably when a champion has a long reign like Wlad, Holmes, Louis, etc, there are going to be some second rate challengers. Can't face a Riddick Bowe in every defense.

Yeah I don't feel very embarrassed admitting that today's boxing scene confuses the hell out of me, especially from the political and governing end. The WBA has super titles in each weight class, the WBC has "silver" titles, and the WBO has the most screwed up rules for choosing mandatories. I'm lost....

It is rather comical that nowadays some of us view the IBF as an " old school" organization the way that many viewed the WBA in the 80's.

    Yes to that too.

What this underlines is the disastrous unfolding of a fighter who understandably but unfortunately hops in with the alphabet guys. I prefer the Morales school of thought, come at me bro etc.

No rush. I'm on #80, and it already looks completely different.

Ross wasn't much but he had floored Marvin Hart and was looking all over the winner until he hit him while he was down and was dsq'd.

Ross's main qualification was his complexion.

Carpentier was the European heavyweight Champ ,the world light heavy champ , he had lost a very disputed decision to Joe Jeannnette and beaten Gun Boat Smith for the white heavyweight title.
Roper was nothing but Louis was defending every month.

Rademacher and Daniels were unconscionable farces that should not have happened ,that doesn excuse Wlad defending against a 34 year old with only one decent win on his resume. Roman was top ten ranked.
Frank didn't deserve a title shot, but again that doesn't excuse this fight taking place.

Leapai has been fighting trial horses and struggling with some of them.
Here are the WBO top ten rankings.
    1.Leapai
    2.Chisora.
    3.Ruiz
    4.Wilder
    5.Pulev
    6.Hammer
    7.Fury
    8.Perez
    9.Jennings
    10.Arreola

    Boytzov is no13

Anyone think that is a credible list of the top ten heavyweights currently active?

The six underlined are not ranked in this months Ring and were not in last months.

But that's not the point of the alphabet rankings McVey, it never has been, but now they don't even pretend any more.

Most of the right names are there, but the order sucks. And its missing Adamek and Stiverne. I like Deontay Wilder but he hasn't beaten anyone to warrant being ranked #4 even on Schindler's list, let alone any sort of boxing rating system..

Does that mean that my complaint about Leapai not being worthy of a heavyweight title shot is justified then? Because thats all I want an answer to.

If you think that WBO top ten ratings have any relationship with Planet Earth you must be a Martian.Im sorry you're tired why not have a sleep?

For say, ten years or so.

Well it depends upon your point of view. If you believe in a unified champion being important for the division, and a lot of people believe that fervently, then yes he is. In fact the opponent becomes almost immaterial.

If you aren't that bothered about that sort of thing it's very, very hard to justify him as an opponent.

The list stinks to high heaven.

How can Leapai,Ruiz,Hammer,Perez ,Jennings be on it but Povetkin Adamek, and Stiverne aren't?
