so you think lalonde is as good as wlad and rocky is as good as leonard?!

leonard was an ex-welter who had already bulked up to 160...and what weight did lalonde come in at? it's not like he MASSIVE weight restrictions put on him so that both the 168 and 175 titles could be fought for right?

1) the welterweight vs light heavyweight was actually a middleweight against a supermiddleweight.

2) wlad against rocky would be at least a 60 pound weight difference. same division, MASSIVE size difference

3)leonard was an all time great fighter, lalonde was a b level, cherry picked opponent.

4) rocky is an all time great fighter without the skills or speed of leonard, wlad is an elite, technically superior boxer with significantly more power than rocky

This comparison is so far away from wlad vs rocky that you must have presented it sarcastically...

 

The only realistic argument I can think of is "Dempsey did it to Willard and Louis did it to Carnera and rocky is better than them two".

It's a leap of faith but one that isn't wholly unreasonable. It's a leap of faith I can't make but one that I can see others making.

Sanders fight is anomalous stylistically but the Brewster fight exposes wlads weaknesses. Peter is like the floor level of the fighter required. Be a bit better and taller than Peter and you can do it successfully.

Like asking Henry Armstrong to beat Jones Jr. Even if he gets inside, can someone that small really hurt someone that big?

 

Lalondy was a tall stand up boxer who was shutting out Ray with a stiff jab before Ray sapped his strenght and stamina with bodywork, trapped him against the ropes and didn't stop hitting till he was out.
Wlad isn't an A level fighter, he needs the help of his brother to dominate the worst HW division known to man yet still managed to get stopped 3 times by avarge opposition.
If Peters had half the stamina and workrate the Rock had he would of had Wlad out for the count in the first fight, but let it slip due to his clumsiness , lack of urgency and just being an overall useless contender.
He had Wlad out on his feet and instead of upping the ante he plodded towards him like a Sunday stroll through the park.
The guy fought a battle worn James Toney twice , couldn't get him out and deserved to lose the rematch clearly.
Rocky would of beat Peters unmerciful and wouldn't of been ran around the ring like Wlad was
This is the low level of talent Wlad swims around with.

 

Things never change. These little threads about 185 pound Rocky Marciano fighting actually heavyweights bad or good are just idiotic. Marciano never been beat a light heavyweight who was considered great in their physical prime yet he could beat guys frome Frazier and Foreman to Tyson and Lewis.

In reality Wlad or Vitali would stop him in 1 round just like Foreman. Lewis, Tyson, Bowe, Tua and countless others would. I guess seeing how much of a joke the good ole USA is I guess white males need something to build them up. And praising a dead boxer from the 50's is just what you need I guess.

 

Well you didnt really address the points of why that comparison is ludicrous. other tham saying lalond was outjabbing ray and that wlad isnt A level (he is). are you conceding the analogy simply doesnt work? Or just wanna repeat the same argument about how sam peter sucks

Do you think the size difference is the same as well? You have a choice of so many smaller fighters overcoming larger ones and you pick one with such public and laughable weight restrictions? And one where the fighters are massively different in skills...its honestly one of the worst analogies you could think of
