Alvarez really wasn't that much bigger than Hatton. Not long ago Canelo was fighting at 147 as well, and Hatton has fought at pretty much the exact weight he was last night more than a number of times. Size difference is one of the most overrated things in boxing.
It is funny how boxing works. 154 went from an interesting and fairly deep division to an almost complete wasteland inside of about 18 months. That's some embarrassing sh*t right there, beating a C-level former 140 pounder for a "title" at 154. Luckily the kid has the talent to redeem this mess down the line at some point.
Margarito had only had one fight at 154 since losing to Santos years ago and that was against some -C level opponent after he was banned for being a cheat yet they make him and a guy that had never fought at that weight a fight for a vacant title. Neither deserved it, same goes for Alvarez and Hatton. Even before this we had Sergio Martinez being given the title without beating the champion and vacating the title without even defending it. The WBC 154 title is a joke and has been long before last nights fight.
What do you base this assessment on? What was his last "big" or "quality" win...Cotto? Not seeing the "danger", as he's been beaten ******ed in the last two decent fights he's had.
You must be huffing glue to think little Matthew Hatton was supposed to do anything but get knocked out by Alvarez. He is a scrub, third tier Welterweight who is not and never was near the top 10 worldwide. He is not world level, he is barely a european contender and if Ricky Hatton wasn't pulling strings, he wouldn't be ****. Margarito won the WORLD WELTERWEIGHT TITLE from A GREAT MIGUEL COTTO. I'm not a Margo fan, but he wasn't caught with plaster in that fight and I am an optimistic ******* sometimes. Either way, Hatton was lucky to even get a picture with a world title. Margarito is a serious 154 lber--he isn't great, even particularly very good, but he is serious. Hatton is technically mediocre, has no power, no speed and no size at 154. Pac's title is a farce too. Both titles are ****, but Canelo got his against a shittier fighter if that means anything.
Canelo set a catch to bring hatton up and missed weight. Even though Oscar asked for the belt, canelo was already set to walk thru Matthew hatton. There wasn't doubt in the fight that hatton couldn't win
