This applies to Wlad Klitch too

In certain fights illegal fouling got him the win more than his boxing did. His ability alone wasn't enough to handle Sam Peter. He may well have lost without using Peters back to conserve his energy while also shutting the fight down where he wouldn't have been able to achieve without using his octopus tactics. Pretty shocking when you think about it twice.

The first 2 names that jump out are young Hughie and Chisora.

Give me a logical reason why the Ruiz version of Roy couldn't have beaten those guys?

I think sports science has helped athletes reach their physical peaks better than yesteryear. Like if Ali had a dietician and a sports team looking after him he would have been even better than he was.
If Bolt was born in the 60's, nobody would be breaking his records in this day and age. There's special athletes once every generation and he's one of them. His records will last for a few decades yet, imo.

true. to gain minor advantages. but some in question could not win if their illegal tactics were taken away.

ruiz was rightfully forbidden from his mauling and grappling of jones jr.

same thing happened to wlad vs brewster I .In a clean fight he was obliterated in just 5 rounds

Hughie is a better boxer than Tyson is, as Peter their trainer will tell you. He lacks power but he's a better boxer than Tyson. His jab and move alone beats both Ruiz and Jones. Hughie is legit 6'6 & a future world champion.

Chisora would meet Ruiz in the middle of the ring and beat him up. Current Chisora would beat up 2003 Ruiz imo How is Roy going to keep Chisora off him? Chisora is much more mobile and come forward than Ruiz is even in Ruiz's prime. Roy's not got the power to keep Chisora off him.

Chisora is not far too gone, as he did pretty good vs Pulev recently.
I forgot to add Pulev to my list.
He also knocks out both Roy and Ruiz.

One of Pulev's jabs meeting Roy's 190lb face is hilariously fun to watch in my mind. Pulev would wear down Ruiz with that jab, he's also bigger than Ruiz and much stronger.

How comes majority of heavyweight threads always end up becoming an argument about Roy Jones as a Heavyweight o_O

Training camps are much more intensive than even in Ali's, or the 80's era. A lot of boxers get injured in camps. Also ££$$$s
Boxers earn much more these days than they did back than and don't have to fight as often.
You look at fighters these days who do have 4-5 fights a year and they're retired by age 30.

    Any other questions?

I'm a big fan of all the Fury's. I've had a close interest in them for many years.

I like the look of Hughie. But he hasn't done anything yet. It's just potential. As yet, he hasn't showed me that he'd have been favoured over Roy.

Regarding Del Boy, Roy would have had to have gained his respect very early. And I think he would have done. I think he could have repeatedly beaten him to the punch to have deterred him from pouring forward at every opportunity. He's got an enormous amount of respect for Roy. It doesn't matter how good you are, you can be broken mentally. Roy got Ruiz's respect early and he made him ultra cautious. He kept second guessing himself which made Norman Stone go crazy.

I'm not saying that Derek couldn't have beaten him. Not at all. But I don't see why Roy couldn't have won on points.

Michael Spinks wasn't much bigger than Roy when he fought Holmes twice.

GGG turned pro 10 years ago, aged 24. GGG was a bad example you give to me really due to him knocking out most of his opponents and hardly NEVER going 12rds in his fights...

Give me somebody else if you're going to do this.
