I largely agree, but I would differentiate between Wladimir and Vitali. Vitali was a lot more fan-friendly than his brother. Your point regarding the perceived mortality of the Klitschko brothers is interesting. During Wladimir's reign, I pretty much never felt like he could be beaten, which is a strange thing to say about someone who was clobbered by three mediocre opponents not long prior. Yes, he improved somewhat, but he was also protected. It says a lot about how bad the competition was that I never felt like he was going to lose. Leapai, Brock, Thompson, Pianeta, Peter, Byrd, Raham, Mormeck, Haye.... such bad competition. I believe that this era has far more talent, personality and entertainment. And I would have loved Vitali to have been a part of this era.
It’s certainly isn’t great, Covid hasn’t helped though. However, surely there are too many inactive boxers. Many sports have carried on regardless, it isn’t a great spectacle having limited, or no spectators but that’s the way it is, or has been. Fury, Joshua & probably Usyk (too early yet) are way ahead of the rest. Hopefully the next 18 months will see Joyce, Hrgovic, Yoka, Dubois etc. step up. This is important as Wilder & Fury may have retired by then. I know Fury, AJ, Usyk & Wilder are fighting soon but neither will fight again for probably another 9 months, despite Fury planning to fight 5 times by 2022 (he’s had 7 in nearly 7 years !) Fans of boxing need more fights in the flagship division. It’s in danger of becoming lost. The Emperor’s new clothes springs to mind.
Cherry picking, anti-doping governance, referees and likely judges in his back pocket, questionable operations regarding gloves, rings and canvases. All unethical and implemented as a way of protecting his vulnerabilities. Clearly. You're welcome.
Name the fighters he ducked. You routinely mock anti-doping measures in every thread that mentions PEDs.
Lewis era was horrible, terrible Lewis era, most overrated boxer in world history. Retired when he was 38. Ha ha ha, and his fans excuse him as being obese. While demanding things they does not demand from Lewis: to be in prime shape while you are 38 and older while Lewis had excuses. So there he was good boxer in DUCKWONTA Quack Lennox Lewis . Yeah, good era with him, LOL. This mediocrity had struggled with old and small Holyfield. If Holyfield had Lewis size, he had KTFOed DUCK KING Lewis. DUCKWONTA Lewis also had been KTFOEed if he had rematch vs Vitali. Therefore DUCK retired and his fans are thinkng how cool DUCK WAS.
Another thing, I think it’s widely accepted amongst the boxing hardcore that Vitali was better and more entertaining than Wladimir but because Wladimir fought the 3 best known British heavyweights of the last 20 years he’s more well known.
Well, if compare with recent time boxing, 40 y.o uncle Vitali had performed vs Chisora better than Parker and Usyk ( who is over the hill but still 34 ). Wlad had more belts and had fought more often therefore he had been ranked higher by western orgs and media than Vitali. Haye too had performed vs Chisora better than Usyk, Parker and Whyte in 1 st fight and actually also in 2 nd fight till 11 th round Whyte did no looked as winner. Haye was good vs Chisora.
This is a strange era for the division, in the past all of the divisions have had champions dodging each other for one reason or another but Fury has changed the game, he's an undefeated two time World Champion with 0 defences and a grand total of 4 years inactivity to date since twice becoming champion. Undisputed Mental Health Champion though, all the belts on that one.
It would be great if people actually fought each other. Ever since David haye pulled out v fury in 2012 I think. Never seem to get the fights we want.
