I thought Lucian Bute would have done a number on Carl Froch and it ended up the other way around in one of the worst pasting I’ve seen.
I actually figured Douglas, with his size, power, movement and all galaxy jab could give an unsuspecting Tyson some problems and actually forge an early lead. But I also figured that his tendency to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in big fights would be his undoing, and result in him being KO'd in the middle rounds. I did not expect Douglas to get up off the mat and return the favor two rounds later.
Eh. We all knew he was training in a hotel room and never allowed media to see him work out. We mostly just underrated Cotto and didn't anticipate further deterioration after the Murray fight. But, once again, we all knew he had an additional tear and surgery on the knee after that fight. We had the relevant info, just didn't put it to use.
Such a good topic, so much comedy in hindsight: Obvs, Hatton to 'out-man' Manny. Haye to land a Hayemaker on Wlad. Eubank Jr to out work and stop everybody. Bruno to beat Tyson! We all wanted it to happen, absolutely no chance in reality. Basically, I'm a hopelessly optimistic Brittard and love it!
Oh and the best being a 'fully prepared Mitchell' to beat Linares, wasn't such a bad shout but just buying into the idea was such Brittard behaviour ha ha
It's funny, I called Bute being massively overrated yet still picked him to beat Froch. I didn't expect Froch to be winging hooks from his hips and didn't expect Bute to happily eat them.
I was about 12 and thought Tyson was unbeatable at that time. I've learned that no boxer is actually unbeatable.
Good call. I think a ton of people were in this same boat. Also around this time, Corrales over Mayweather. I thought it was a 50/50 type fight. Wow.
