Last night it was announced that there will be "Super Eight" single elimination Light Heavyweight tournament in the coming months on Channel Five, with belts on the line throughout the tourney. Would something similar work at Heavyweight domestically given the fact that the vast majority of domestic level heavyweights are with smaller promoters? I think this is preferable to the Prizefighter format and builds a story over a six month period.
Are there 8 heavyweights in the country not at top level who are currently active? Names like Big John and Sam don't seem to be very active.

As said,most in the top 10 are either hibernating and retired by the looks of it and it does need a wee bit of spark. Early days,but Joshua is looking like something special compared to the Prices and Fraudleys we have been hyped with.
Depends how low you want to go- Sprott, McDermott, Cornish, Towers, Lewison, Dallas have all fought (or will fight soon) in the past six months. You'd only need a couple more to fill out the brackets.
Being serious here.If you are including the names you mention i think the "Super" should be excluded from the tourney name.Having watched the last Cornish,Dallas and Towers fights it wouldnt get the juices flowing,even considering its only domestic level.
There is a Super 8 HW tournament in New Zealand on 4th June - Michael Sprott, Martin Rogan and Kali Meehan have confirmed so far. It is Prizefighter, but with more money on offer
they should do more of this type of thing domestically - create a bit of interest would fill out a few undercards make it seem a bit less pointless than they have been doing
The Channel Five shows are main evented by the tournament fights mainly because they are largely British level.
