No he won't. He would fool idiots who believe him out of desperation(well with Hatton being knocked out the way he did, can you blame them?, who else do they have?) that he's the champion and people should come to him. He did that when Jones and Hopkins were in their prime with his WBOgus title when these guys were #1 yet somehow he agreed and carried his LINEAL title all the way to America when both guys were beyond shot and past it for years. It's fair to say if BOTH Kessler and Lacy didn't beg to make the fight for a long time and didn't carry their belts to Wales this guy would have fought Kebabi Salem in a rematch and Tocker Pudwill's mother instead and some idiots would have him ATG #2. If you want to consider yourself the MAN in a division you immediately look to unify, this guy never even cared to unify because going to the US to fight prime fighters wasn't in plan, it's only a plan when these guys are BEYOND shot.
Joe Calzaghe agrees to participate in a Super Six Richie Woodall David Starie Rick Thornberry Robin Reid Mark Delaney Way to go Joe.
No because it would've violated Enzo's belief of "no rematches" I think he'd beat Taylor, Abraham, Froch, (obviously Kessler), but I honestly feel he'd have a tough night with Dirrell and would lose to Ward (if the fight wasn't in Whales)...on a matter of styles. Taylor typically finds a way to lose for some reason with high activity fighters and Calzaghe is just that...he'd never find his breathing room. Taylor would lose a UD. Abraham would prolly hurt Calzaghe and possibly score some KDs...but his activity is WAAAYYY TOO LOW! Great defense, but his workrate is too low. He would just be slapped around for 12 rounds chasing air and would lose a UD Froch would be ***** slapped around for 12 rounds...much like Lacy. Too slow and open. Robotic. It would be embarassing. He might score a KD and that would be about it. Someone like Dirrell though would give Calzaghe fits. Dirrell is just as fast, pretty active and the switching thing would be hard to adjust to. He doesnt have the firepower to keep Dirrell's confidence down. That would be a helluva fight, but for some reason I think Calzaghe pulls this one out with guts and heart. Ward on the other hand, but actually manage to fight Calzaghe the right way and beat him like Hopkins should've. He would clinch when he needs to. He would time him when he comes in and his accuracy is ridiculous. Calzaghe would simply play into his hands. Ward would fight smart and switch when he needs to as well as keep him honest with those quick jabs. It would be a chess match that would have Ward a close but clear UD...unless it was in Whales...then he would be ****ed.
well considering it was 2 years ago he beat the bset fighter in the super 6,i think he would've entered it & won it.
There is no reason why he wouldnt, he`d cake walk it... he`s already beat the man thats gonna stroll it, Kessler. Thread closed !
atsch Calzaghe was a coward who only fought old men. Even when he was fighting other young belt holders like Lacey and Kessler he was **** scared because he fought them where he would make the most money and knew they were hype jobs and going to get minor injuries in training when no-one else in the world did. See though he was a shitbag that couldn't fight and got 46 lucky wins, he was psychic and had magic powers to make Hopkins a washed up has been when he fought him but young enough to fight again when he fought Pavlik. He just couldn't use those magic abilities to make himself any good at boxing. Has reading all the well balanced knowledgeable contributers to this forum taught you all nothing?
On a serious note, yes I think he would have entered the super 6. I am not aware of Calzaghe ducking opposition in his prime regardless of what anyone has to say.
Yes he would have entered it! He never ducked anybody that im aware of..Roy Jones etc moved up a division before he had the chance to pursue a fight, if im not mistaken! To all those who said he only fights in wales..the guy fought in England(rivalry with welsh), scotland and Germany. The lack of opponents in the division was his problem, the fact he had to travel to germany and beat Veit who had he already beaten 5 or 6 fights before kinda sums it up. Im not a huge fan..but whether you like the guy or not he did the best he could in the division bar fighting Ottke and lets be frank fighting him in Germany is a no win situation!
Stop lying, it was an even fight for the 1st half then Calzaghe pulled away from him in the 2nd half, game over.
He also fought in Denmark on the undercard of the Brian Nielson-Mike Tyson fight. But he clearly avoided fighting Hopkins earlier by staying at supermiddleweight when Hopkins decided to bypass SMW and go straight to LHW when he moved up from middleweight. He also forced Hopkins to double his demands the day after agreeing a contract to fight him in 2003 but before he signed it. Clear ducking in anyones book.
the point is that if you choose not to fight in the US or to court US networks then it's likely you'll be a fringe drawcard until you change that.
