I agree that is a sad fact but Wlad/Sultan will do big numbers in Europe at least. I think the best scenario for a high profile unification bout will be if Peter can take out Maskaev, which I think he will, and he and Wlad could have the big rematch/unification match. For me however I'm happy the HW's are getting closer to one true champion and don't really give a **** if the casual fan isn't interested because the top fighters are not in the news for stupid behaviour. How do you rate some of the younger guys coming up like Povetkin, Haye , and Solis, I think those guys will add a lot to the division. Hows it looking for any young American HW's BTW? Haven't really heard talk of any recently.
Stellar post, top to bottom. Punisher ought to read this.....learn this............KNOW this. Great post. :good
Cheers. I just don't understand how someone can't enjoy a great title fight simply because the competitors are not wannabe thugs. IMO guys like Lennox and Wlad are 10000 times better for the sport than guys like Tyson. 2008 is shaping up to be a great year for boxing and I couldn't care less if some random at my local pub doesn't know who Kelly Pavlik is, I'm still going to enjoy the fights.
Fair post, I agree Peter fighting Wlad be a very exciting for me and most fans alike. I just think boxing right now especially has to find a way to appeal to the average fan, Im sick of my friends and people at the bar talking about the damn UFC, its starting to really bother me. I dont know if you guys got the same problem in your country or not, but the only I see to combat that is putting on the best boxing matches possible, which boxing has in 07, aside from the Heavyweights I have no complaints. As far as American up in comers, I know only a few good ones. Chambers and Witherspoon are decent I guess, but neither of there styles are that appealing to the average fan. I hope Sam Peter does well, and Valuev beats Liakhovich. Valuev's height and overall look alone will get peoples attention, maybe the fight of the giants Valuev/Wlad, that sounds like that might get the average fans attention.:yep
Chamber and Witherspoon, both, will let us down. Chambers has fast hands, but he's not going to get past Povetkin. Povetkin is the best up and comer, by FAR, regardless of nationality.
I agree, I sponser neither one of them. Povetkin by far is the best prospect out there today, I still cant see him beating Wlad, but I give him a slightly better chance than Iggy. I hope 08 is a better year for the Heavyweights than 07, all the postponements and lack luster fights for the most part really disappointed me as a big Heavyweight boxing fan.
quote=Zakman]Exactly. I cannot imagine an era of boxing that could be so utterly devoid of talent that McNeeley could be a contender. In fact, I'd say it's damn close to impossible.[/quote] You're right, the Paterson era was far better , with the likes of Rachamacher and Johannson, etc. In fact, Max's era wasn't that great either. Braddock beat him.
Nah, they'd say that Russian guy (Klitschko is Ukrainian) y'know, the big dude. I know, I've asked around...............
Your right, I got that response before as well. Though for some reason I still get Lewis alot as well, I wonder why?:think
Lewis was a great champion, that's why. You're right to some degree though, no one knows who Chagaev or Ibragimov are, and only a few ever heard of Sam Peter.
RUSKULL- I think was probably cause Lewis was the unified champ, plus the fact he beat greats like Holyfield and Tyson past there respective primes along the way.
