Cut out the midget and giant weight divisions! That's right! Heavyweights need to make weight. 210 on day before weigh in! 130 bantamweight 140 flyweight 150 lightweight 160 welterweight 170 middleweight 180 lightheavy 190 cruiser 200 lightheavy 210 heavy
I like the idea of HW's having to make weight too, but 6'5" - 6'7" Heavyweights might have a real hard time making 210. Maybe 225 or 230 lbs. would make more sense for a fighter six and a half feet tall to make.
Smaller more agile heavyweights, that don't suck wind from the 6th round on. Guys will still have the pop to create impressive knockouts. Don't need broken hearted basketball players taking up space in the best sport ever!
110 minimum 115 flyweight 120 bantam 126 feather 132 lightweight 140 Jr welter 150 welter 157 super welter 165 middle 174 super middler 185 light heavy 205 / 210 cruiser 205 / 210+ heavy My thoughts anyways...
This! If you're gonna switch weight classes around, then flip flop Light-Heavyweight & Cruiserweight making LHW just under Heavyweight.
This always confused me when I first started watching boxing. LHW, HW and SHW makes far more sense to me than LHW, CW and HW.
I don't know what those suggestions are, but they're sure stupid. Just three divisions below current lightweight, and an obese division? And why the name changes? Original 8 plus cruiser and light fly. We don't want small heavyweights outsized by the giants, and we don't want the tiniest guys outsized at fly. Obviously we need less divisions not more. 200+ 200 175 160 147 135 126 118 112 106
Multiple weigh-ins are a solution, to ensure boxers aren't dehydrating to make weight, then rehydrating to have a weight advantage. If you had to be 160 lbs a month, a week, three days, AND 24 hours before the fight it wouldn't be possible to have the weight advantage you can have now. Though that doesn't do anything about an 'A side' middleweight bringing up a welterweight to an artificial 160 to bully...
I thought about that, and was about to post why not have a 7 day weigh in before and after the fight? But i'm not sure that will do anything other than be a huge health risk......Boxers will still do it.
