Tony Lopez vs John John Molina Looking for some opinions on how you guys score fights and what constitutes a 10-8 round without a KD. Edit: round 5 At the 6:45 point of the below video Molina takes control of this round, how would you score this if you were the judge. This content is protected
10-8 for me. Rocked badly and in a decent amount of danger of getting stopped on the ropes. Got seriously beat up and offered virtually no offense back. I would say this was lopsided enough to call it 10-8.
Philly, I would have no problem with a 10-8. Tony started to come back at the end of the round, but way too late. And when he was hurt and taking those shots from molina, he wasn't firing back at all. 10-8 is a good call IMO.
I just got done round 8 and I also scored round 5 10-8 the commentator scored it 10-9 but they were debating if some judges might score it 10-8 or 10-9. I might start a thread series called you be the judge to see what posters think about certain rounds.
Definitely 10-8 on my card. It's Sacramento though, so call it 10-9 for Lopez. That guy did enjoy his home cooking.
Which hometown decisions did you feel he got that he didn’t deserve? I am rescoring some Lopez fights this week and curious what ones you think were unfair. I just scored Lockridge I & II and Molina I and feel he earned all of those. But I have not gotten to Paez, Brian Mitchell I & II, Thobela I or Molina III yet.
Yeah Tony seemed to throw back over the final 20 seconds or so, but I felt it warranted being 10-8. I was just curious how others saw it. Thanks
I thought Molina 1 was clear for Molina, I thought Mitchell beat him the first time, and while I must admit I haven't seen it , I read Thobela deserved the decision in their first fight. Add the abnormally long count when he hit the deck against Lockridge and there's some pretty clear favoritism there. I do like that he flat admitted to loving the hometown advantage in a KO Magazine interview, and who could blame him? Abd it's true he was competitive in these questionable bours. I think we both know that if they take place anywhere other than Arco Arena, however, he ain't walking out of there with all victories. But yes, I agree he was fun to watch. And root against.
I had him winning both Molina I & III Just scored both this morning. 1 Molina could/should have won but he pulled an earlier DLH vs Tito tactic starting in round 6 and pretty much gave away 6-9. I had him up 4 pts after 5 which I scored 10-8 Molina it was so onesided. But I have him losing the final 7 rounds of which 12 was the only debatable round he could have taken IMO. I had him winning 4 rounds and one even. I guess you could make a case for a draw, but not sure how he can win that when you factor in his low blow deduction in 11. In 3 man Molina fought brilliant in 1-3 but may have punched himself out he was setting such a fast pace. I had him sweeping those 3 rounds, but he got on his bike in 4 and in 5-8 he had slowed his pace noticeably and I felt Lopez took 4-8 to go up 2 pts. I didn’t score 8 10-8 Lopez even though the commentary did and it would certainly be justified. It was close to 10-8 but I scored it 10-9 Lopez nonetheless. Molina came out jabbing in 9-10 and edged 2 super close rounds on my card to tie the fight up. But Lopez overwhelmed him in 11 and scored a huge KD to seal the round and pretty much the fight IMO. I gave Lopez a close 12th but even if I went even or Molina Lopez still would have won my card by a point or 2. I think Pacheco started this narrstive during the 2nd Molina fight saying no way should he have lost the first fight after sweeping the first 6 rounds...to me it would be hard to say he won 1-6, I had him up 3-2-1 with 2 10-8 rounds...you might be able to argue 4-2 but not 6-0 like the imbecile Pacheco was. I do think Lopez got a favorable draw to Brian Mitchell in the first fight and Thobela in the first fight by memory, but I have not rescored them yet. I think this is more one of those narratives that gets promoted by commentators that becomes a semi-fact in observers opinions. I don’t think it is fair to Lopez who fought great in these 2 Molina fights.

I only watched round 5 because I wanted a fresh context since that's the round in question. He whipped him good, but Lopez was never out of control of himself, and although hurt, defending himself and firing back when he could. No problem with a 10-8 round, as its doubtful all 3 judges would agree and mark that down, but a 10-9 or 10-8 is acceptable. Again, Lopez was hurt but not out of control of himself for any length of time. At no point did I think he was going down or out. So thats the deciding factor for me.
I was at both Mitchell fights. I thought the first fight was a clean win for Mitchell. Maybe the 1st Molina fight. Molina 3 was close but Tony earned that one late.
If you were to judge that round 10/9. What If Lopez came back the next round and just won it slightly without much action? That can't be even.
