pavliks best chance is joe going back down to 168, coupled with age, means he gets old in the ring, and fast - and that wont be anything to do with what pavlik does - its nature on joe. chances are - joe can do it one more time, and i really cant see what pavlik has to offer. this is lacy all over again, and when this is done, and joe is still undefeated - all of pavliks flaws will be mentioned, that he was so inexperienced, so joe should go back up to 175, beat dawson - who is the new great fighter who has achieved so much more than joe. after that there will be someone else. people like booradley would back that little granny on the street corner over joe - why? probably due to an inability to accept that one of the best fighters in the world is not from states, is undefeated, and is better than everyone else at or around his weightclass. at the end of the day, the only one who really would be the overwhelming favourite, prime for prime, is RJJ, and lets face it - is that something to be so ashamed of? so all you people stating how much pavlik has achieved, how good he is, how crap joe is - would you still back him if he gets lacied? if he gets dominated in brutal fashion? or even if he loses a clear decision a la kessler?
I disagree. I see no similarities between Lacy and Pavlik besides power. Pavlik has the better footwork and also is the better offensive fighter. Everything he does comes behind a jab. He also doesn't reach like Lacy does. Pavlik also is just more active. And he isn't easily dissueded by his opponent's offense. If Pavlik walked through Miranda's bombs he will certainly walk through Calzaghe's slaps.
Don't bother with these guys. As soon as a eurocunt says "Lacy" you know they are too far gone. Everything is "What about Lacy, it's another Lacy". :-( Pavlik would castrate slappy within 7 no doubt. Now the question is what will the excuses be? Joe got old? Pavlik could never beat him at 175? Joe was weakened trying to make the 168lb limit? Enzo shouldn't have run into the ring to stop it, Joe was going to recover and win?
Calzaghe fans don't need excuses for anything, he can't be beaten. Look at the big fat 0 Only haters need excuses, because each time they latch onto a new guy their hopes and dreams are destroyed :hi: Pavlik is the next guy :deal
Kelly will hurt slappy with the straight right but it will be Kelly's vicious left hook that will put slappy to sleep by KO. :good
That will DEFINITELY NOT happen atsch I'm not saying Joe can't win this fight, but it will be very hard for him. He is there to hit....and thats what Pavlik does :yep
Calzaghe's wide slaps are not going to be of a concern to Pavlik. That wish-washy **** will work on a similarily wide/slow Lacy but Pavlik actually throws a JAB. And he has the reach to put Calzaghe's smoke and mirrors routine in check. You'll see if it gets made. Nothing Calzaghe brings will threaten Pavlik.
Thank you very much.:good To put it plain & simple, technically, Kelly knows how to punch (straight punches win) & Lacey doesn't (haymakers will get you killed).
Anyone comparing Lacy to Pavlik is a ****ing idiot! I love how underrated Pavlik gets from Knocking Miranda and Taylor the **** out and then, god forbid only beating Jermain soundly by UD in the rematch.
I know the boxing math equations don't always pan out but in some cases they shed a little light in the analyzation process. Hopkins wasn't able to CLEARLY beat Jermain in 2 fights, he looked even older and fatigued in his fight with Joe and it was still close. Pavlik wiped the floor with Taylor and then beat him convincingly again in the rematch. To say Pavlik will be dominated by Calzaghe is pure stupidity because there is NO stylistic advantage for Joe in this one.
There is a chasm sized stylistic advantage for Calzaghe, for anybody that has seen Calzaghe's career and knowns the type of fighter he looks best against Taylor and Miranda are B+ and C+ class respectively It doesn't really worry the enlightened Calzaghe fans what the hell Pavlik did with them, because this time he has to deal with an elite that has a jab, speed, an inside game, a chin and adaptability. Taylor nor Miranda even come close to putting a number of those attributes together.
Dawg. I think Calzaghe is a terrific fighter for what he knows how to do. He's good at doing what he knows. Beating BHops who lost to Taylor twice and could have lost to Wright as well doesn't sound like it means much to me. BHops is only tough if you lack the endurance to outwork him (see Tarver). He's a hellvua technical great but he's 42 years old! Hell even Joe ended up getting dropped by a right hand similar to the type Taylor ate en route to his victories. I'm not going to say Calzaghe has a shaky beard but he no doubt is as fundamentally flawed as Taylor. He can be caught flush, twisted, off balance in most regards. As far as I'm concerned Calzaghe's performance against Kessler was abominable. Granted I was pulling for Kessler but Calzaghe made it an utterly sloppy fight. Knowing Kessler was a strong counter-puncher, Calzaghe employed the punch and grab routine. He suffocated Kessler's counterpunching ability. That won't work on Pavlik because Pavlik is an aggressive boxer/puncher. He will step into his jabs and he will knock Calzaghe back with jabs. And that is pretty much all you need to know about this fight.
