Although, it should be noted that 3/5 most noticeable fights from Kessler he's fought in his opponents home turf. So calling him a hometown fighter is absolutely bollocks.

I guess if u r from Europe, u r automatically a hometown fighter. I guess most of them know a couple of recent Kessler's fights... the guy has been fighting for years, had a lot of injuries and surgeries in the past, before 'meeting the elite'. If you are past 30 and for more than 10 years in the business, of course you'll have nagging injuries...if you are lucky. If not.. look at the VK and Kessler.

    :rofl

    "Absolute bollocks"

45 professional fights .. 40 at home .. how many Danish refs, judges, & officials would ya reckon? How many fights on an opponent's promotion rather than his own?

The fight that just got canceled would have made it 41 out of 46 at home.

Even the Mundine fight had to have a Danish judge .. no Aussi but there was a Dane who not surprisingly turned in the only shut out card and the only one FAR off from the other two.

Eleven title fights - seven at home.

The fight that just got canceled would have been his twelfth title fight with eight at home.

So he essentially traveled for one irrelevant fight to Vegas early in his career.

He traveled to meet Mundine but brought a judge.

In his 40th professional fight he had to travel to face reluctant Joe .. deserves credit for that .. similar to Lacy .. both went abroad to fight in front of a hostile crowd .. though not nearly as hostile for Kess. Note that was his 40th fight not 22nd like for Lacy.

He fought Haussler in Germany .. not all that enormous of a venture.

And, finally, he made a trip to the US in his 44th fight - to meet a 25 year old in his 22nd pro fight - .. most would hope that a world champion would be able to fight - long before this - without his own team of judges and refs for nearly an entire career.

I guess if your yardstick is Brian Neilsen you can imagine that Kess was some sort of world traveler.

What was I thinking huh? MK's clearly a guy ready to fight ya anytime and any place.

    Well, five times anyway ...

Not exactly all that Viking-like ....

He's a nice guy .. but your protestations about this fact is quite absurd. No need to tilt at windmills boys. I can see proximity keeping him near home .. but fighting 21 times in Copenhagen and another 19 times in other Danish cities is basically staying at home. Today's fighters aren't fighting as much as in prior eras ... Kessler fighting in Denmark is obviously significantly beneficial to his win/loss record. He didn't have to face much adversity and always had favorable if not optimal conditions - vis-a-vis his opposition. It is what it is.

I can't see Kessler pulling out of this fight without the eye being a real issue. He was fighting at home, on Showtime, against Green who looked awful his last time out. If he was going to be back in Oakland against Ward again, then Iole might be onto something. But Kessler's defense against Green seemed like a very winnable home defense, I can't see him passing up that payday for no payday at all.

Yes.. You are right... Mikkel Kessler is no Journeyman and doesn't live on the road... He was a big talent back in the amateurs and well known in Denmark... After turning pro, Kessler has fought many fights at home because he was the star in the fight and the fight would generate more money in Denmark.
When fighting for World titles Kessler has fought 7 at home and 3 away... But lets not forget that Kessler was the defending world champion in 8 of these fights and actually traveled 3 times as defending champ...
