    :good

Oscar can beat you more then just boxing... watch the mayorga fight, he stayed in close, firing his left hook and right cross with power, right in the pocket with mayorga.... he didnt outbox him so to speak as much as he outpunched mayorga.

Yes... a technical boxer like spinks can and IS 1D because he only HAS that dimension to beat you.

He cant do what hoya did and beat you with staying in there, hurting you, and knocking you out...

Hoya... on the other hand, could do that, or he could do what he did against trinidad, he has multiple ways he can beat his opponents, spinks does not...

Ok **** the whit pick... it wasnt a fair assesment.

but you guys get the idea...

also... i didnt add mayweather because hes NOT just a boxer... he is also a boxer puncher, and can also beat you with moving around the ring, or staying in the pocket, he can choose to punch with you or he can choose to box your ears off....

Ok I got it now, just took me a few times reading it:lol:
I kind of agree with you. Except that Whitaker doesn't quite fit this description: against Hurtado (a masterful (Cuban) boxer) sweet pea turned into a stalking power-puncher.

    Peace !

i think what kirk means is that spinks can only beat you one way, stick and move then stick and move some more. he's got a better grasp of fundamentals, movement etc... than a guy like mayorga, but he can he do other things?

compare with someone like barrera who can box and brawl. calzaghe who can box or turn up the heat. hearns who was a master boxer, but could also fight in the trenches. whitaker who was a master boxer, but also a great fighter in the pocket. duran brought in your face pressure, but was also a good boxer who could counter punch and was a great (underrated) defensive fighter.

So fighters without good power yet good otherwise are one-dimensional?
and big punchers without great technique are one-dimensional?

So really the only boxers who are not one-dimensional are those in the Hall of Fame

Good points. Hate all this real sweet science is running around and avoiding punches...BS, real sweet science is being able to maul your opponent aswell as avoid punches. Miss either one and your pretty much 1-D.

i know what it was... that boxers without a punch are 1d, and so are punchers who cant box...

which is true to an extent. there will always be catagories and you can also always break down further to what TRULY is a dimension to a fighter, but it still all comes down to how many ways can named fighter beat his opponent.
