I had the fight a draw as well 114-114. So any claims of robbery are ludicrous, it was a tough close contest as reflected by the scorecards. Yes if you were rooting for Kova you'll feel hard done by seeing your man lose what was a very closely fought contest but he has the chance for redemption in the rematch.

I thought both guys stock rose from this fight. Ward showed he has a great chin, that shot from Sergey would of beheaded a lot of other light heavies but Ward took it and got up. Ward also showed heart to come back from what was a very bad start, he's not just a front runner but a guy that has the will and desire to dig deep when required, lesser fighters would have folded.

Kovalev showed he's far more than a puncher. His foot work and jab are elite level he was out boxing Ward from range and Ward was forced to adapt, forced to take the fight in close. Ward is used to dominating from the outside and inside but Kova was more than a match for him from a distance. Kovalev also showed mental fortitude, the fight was turning and he suddenly had a fight on his hands and despite tiring due to those body shots he never showed distress and still had moments even in those later rounds when Ward was coming on.

Great competitive fight, far better than I could have hoped. As a fan of both men I was delighted with last nights fight and can't wait for a rematch. Let's hope some casuals take note and watch the rematch as 2 fighters this good shouldn't be ignored.

 

The problem with you and guys like you is you believe everything is black and white! My first post after the fight was me stating that Kov won! As you might know, I believed that Ward was going to win. I 've always maintained that Kov is an amazing fighter . Ward got the decision in a closely contested fight! But I am laughing in your guys face at the abject disappointment you are displaying! Keep crying like little girls that can't get the dolly in the window! This is good stuff! I was going to be happy no matter the outcome! Know why... Because I like and respect both fighters! I get 2 cherries on top because it was a good fight and I get to listen to all the Ward haters gripe!LOL
