Benitez was obviously a great fighter and he was about a month or two younger when he beat Cervantes than Attell was when he beat Dixon, making him the youngest champion ever. You lied to us, Burt. :yep

Yea, I got home late last night as I ran another Amateur Boxing Show, and I have another one today.

When I got home, I found out that my wife and I became Grand Parents again!

I did take a fast look at the forum and found this question. I know Burt is old school so it had to be Attell, as was his other question on the brothers.

Now I am going to the hospital to see the little guy and his mother, then I have a Ring 25 meeting, then on the way to Trenton, for the Amateur Show which I will be Ring Announcing.

Just another average day in my life!

I was never massively into games consoles and haven't touched one for at least 10 years, but Oddworld was properly the dog's bollocks; I was hooked on it something mental. When we were about 14, my mate, who was a talented artist, did this brilliant acryllic painting of Abe and we badgered him into entering it into this prominent regional competition just as a joke. And it won. Got displayed somewhere in a gallery amidst all these serious cubist and impressionist canvasses. I was never bitter about it, not at all. AND HE WAS NEVER BETTER AT ODDWORLD THAN ME, THE ****...

Anyway, Benitez wasn't greater than Attell even if you think he might have been more 'talented', whatever that means.

Cobra,my impeccable credentials has been besmirched by you. According to the eminent mathematician, C.Moore Hair, I was incorrect in my math. Benetiz was 17 years and 6 months old when he beat Cervantes in March,1976. Wilfred was born on Sept 12,1958.
However Abe Attell was born on Feb 22,1884,and became featherweight champion titleholder Oct.28,1901, therefore making Attell 17 years old,8 months old. So technically I blundered, causing the earth to vear off from it's axis. For that, I apologize...:patsch

I should note that as I have stated I think Benitez is merely excellent and not Great, Honest Abe too, has too much baggage to really go down as a Great.

TB,until recently Abe Attell was considered along with Terry McGovern as the greatest featherweight that ever lived. For NINE years Abe Attell held the featherweight crown, fighting the best fighters of his era. No one was ever better than Attell. His reputation was tarnished by his involvment in the infamous Black Sox scandal in 1919...Tough,tough,guy who I once saw
    in his bar on B'wy...

Attell's record has been under scrutiny for decades, and as a rule, he has not been given the benefit of doubt. If he is on the level, then yes, he is up there with the Pep's, Saddler's and McGovern's, if not then, he is a borderline top 10 Featherweight...

Burt clearly said 'major' title. Cervantes at the time was brilliant, Benitez would go on to be an excellent fighter himself, but to claim their title as major, is to give alphabet crap far too much credit, IMO.

Burt, are you hitting on Abe Attell again.

Abe won recognition as the world featherweight champion in some quarters on October 28, 1901. He defeated George Dixon. Abe was 17.
