Btw, Mand. It's good giving some of the forgotten names of our era a little shine and reminiscing. It's all good talking about the big names and the foreign fighters, but we need to change it up a bit and this thread was very refreshing.

 That's a good way of looking at it :good. Nice to see someone's got same line of thought as me as well!.
:good I love these type of threads, I'm glad it's got so many pages i must admit i really get fed up with the Khan/Haye/Froch threads. Plus i always talk to HairyHighlander and end up talking about these days one way or another.

I suppose it was my childhood so i cherish the fighters the most.

Ayers was class Brenny, Local lad to me as well born and raised in Tooting so he was one of my local heroes. The Rigby fight the act of sportsmanship was beautiful to watch.

Ola Afolabi said something the other day and it really struck me and it falls into context with that fight 'boxing is a conversation without words'. No words were needed just punches and acknowledgement of who the better man was over course of fight.

Eamonn Magee underachieved during his career, not saying he could have been world class or anything, but he defo could have went further than he did. Held himselfr back with his partying and boozing I heard

He could have been world class if he had some discipline, as jane couch said, he was outside the MEN smoking a ****ing feg before he fought hatton.

then he picked a fight with the wrong people and got his legs broke.

Junior Witter was terrified of him.

The man is a complete and utter ****, I believe Rawling called him "a rough and uncomprimising irishman" during the first round of the hatton fight, but thats what served him so well in the ring, yet also what got him into trouble outside of it.

personally, I hate the man, but as a fighter his potential was limitless

he was out on the **** the week before the Hatton fight

Aye Magee certainly had a touch of class about him, he was good counter puncher and was hard as nails aswell. A case of what might have been.

He could start a fight in an empty room, just very very unpleasant.

In fact, that was the strange thing about Magee, he had the style of a southpaw slickster, yet the personality of a rabid dog

Hoko was great I used to spar with him when I was a kid he was great and taught me loads he just seemed to grow old over night though .Vargas lost to Kevin Kelly then John John Molina soon after beating hoko and mayweather years later all points losses so he was a good fighter but just never made the grade I guess.
