Yeah...I remember hearing my dad say "he (Liston) could do that all night"..they were especially tolerant of Liston's convict past before the first Clay fight because they hated Clay for being such a big mouth..Liston, they thought "kept his mouth shut"..and like most "men's men" would do his talking with his fists...lol, how wrong they were about clay...and Liston.

    lmao.. 514-0 maybe.

I hope to share a few beers with him in the coming weeks D-man. Been in contact with him this year and met up a couple of months ago. His older brother is none other than triple Oz H/W champ Col Wilson.

I'd love to take a tent fight for the sake of taking part in a quickly dying Aussie past time. The showmen are now limited to just a couple and that little piece of Australianism is not going to last forever.

    You on facebook?

    Was he ever !!!
dpw, i have been watching boxing since David Tko'd Goliath, and The young Rocky Graziano was the most exciting fighter I ever saw in all my
years...I saw him when he started out ,til before the Zale Wars...I believe
he had a fast peak, and Tony Zale hastened ,his going downhill..
But when he flattened the excellent Marty Servo [ Rocky was bigger ],he
was at his zenith..Servo was so badly damaged ,he had to retire..Even
Ray Robinson in 2 bouts couldn't drop Servo..When Rocky fought, you had to bring your digitalis to the fight, or a note from your doctor...They didn't call young Graziano the " Dead End Kid " for nothing...

Mine was sparring with Joe Louis before his debut fight with Jack Kracken, and bamboozling him with my lightening jab even though I was a toddler :D

Only teasing Burt, no disrespect intended. your first memories are better than my entire boxing memories combined.

My actual first memory would be my dad taking me to see Jim McDonnel knock out some guy whos name I cant remember at the York Hall in Bethnal Green.
Not exactly a dazzling moment in boxing history, but a great father/son bonding moment.

Earliest boxing memory? - well as far as seeing fights - the first fight that really grabbed my attention in a big way was Barry McGuigan's title win against Pedroza

two favourite memories are meeting and having a playfight with Muhammad Ali - and then about a month ago sitting in a bar for about 2 hours chatting away and drinking wine with 89 year old Bronx Bull Jake LaMotta and his stunning fiance

Thanks for sharing Burt...Always enjoy those stories.I've talked some with JG, and yeah Rocky was a character, and a vicious guy when he wanted to be.
