60's..Just a quality time for boxing from fly up to heavy. My favourite era most definitely for welter-middle. Followed closely by the 80's...The lightheavyweight scene was off the hook, Fab 4, Tyson..the lighter weights had a whole heap of talent and some great fights aswell. Ive quite enjoyed this era, at times it was better than the 90's but overall it wasn't definitely. But as some have said already so many good eras cross decades.
Interesting that the 70's and 80's have a combined 10 of the 12 votes cast so far - particularly when many here weren't even born then. (and that's not to say you can't vote for an era you weren't around for either by the way)
2000 - 2011 more my time.... especially since i got right into bein a boxing fan when i was about 15... eassily favourite for me as its what i've lived through. i know more about the boxers in this time frame and coz i've been able to watch the fights live n follow the build ups aftermaths etc etc as its all unfolding..... as much as i do enjoy watchin the older fights n the old greats i find it harder to sit n watch a fight i already know the results to then i do to sit n watch a current fight thats not yet decided.
Had to go with the 90's. I prefer the 80's and they had some great fighters and fights but watching them was a matter of catching up. The late 80's and into the 90's are where I began paying full attention and actually became a fan as opposed to just watching the big fights when my Dad took me to see something.
Why'd go for the 50's by the way Rooster? Ray Robinson, Marciano, La Motta? Perhaps also locally Carruthers?

Early 70's was good for OZ boxing In 1970 there were 378 shows around OZ (Best ever) 1971 - 359, 72 - 277, 73 - 241, 74 - 222 In 1969 there were 248 & prior to this best was in 1962 with 185 Worst ever was in 1988 with 54 90's was terrible, averaging 78. Early 2000 wasn't much better. These days we hit around 120- 130 ** These days over 12 month period, we only have around 250 active boxers at any one time, hence the reason not all cards can be what some always expect, and the reason for imports....particularly in lower weight divisions.
Importantly the 70's also gave us TV Ringside (Case & Merv) and offshoot programs on the other networks. Plus HSV7 also supported boxing on Sunday mornings with World of Sport (Gus).
