Mills Lane for sure, how many would of dealt with the bite fight as well as mills did? Mike Tyson just bit a chunk out of Holyfields ear and Mills has the cajones to go over and tell him "BULL****" right to his fight and take points off. Obviously he was doing his duty as ref but how many would of stood up to an obviously unstable violent Mike Tyson that night with such authority
Mills Lane and Arthur Mercante were technically the best, in terms of having a proven ability to handle tough situations under tremendous pressure. Handling something like the FOTC or the Bite Fight took extraordinary cool under pressure and good judgement. In terms of who I like to "see" ref a fight, Steve Smoger, because I know I'm never going to even see him unless it's totally necessary. He's the Underpants Gnome of boxing: he's almost never seen, he's short & has a beard, and I have no idea how he goes from almost never doing anything >>> ??? >>> great fights, but somehow he pulls it off.

Mills Lane was my favorite because of this very action he took in this fight. Tyson was being a jerk and Mills told him right to his face which took alot of courage.
I don't like how Smoger calls the fighters "baby." Bayless and Mills Lane are good, Bayless because his expressions sort of dramatize whatever is going on and Lane because he's a character.
I can't stand "his jumping around can't shut my mouth dancing around hey look at me" kind of style a good ref nevertheless
