He didnt get caught with a lucky haymaker in the 1st fight. It is so obvious he adopted that covering up and laying on the ropes after losing all the weight because he had no damn energy. Tarver couldn't touch him in the center of the ring.
I don't think Roy's chin was glass in his prime AT ALL. Whether or not he was hit OFTEN, to say he went 49 fights without getting hit with some big punches is insane... Even watch some of his destructions, like against Richard Hall (who I think had 24 KOs in 25 wins, at LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT)... When Roy was pummeling him early, some of his punches were very wide and looping. And Roy literally WALKED into some of Hall's desperate swings, trying to land his own bombs. Not to say it was one of his best assets (his chin)... But I don't think it can really be used against him in mythical head to head match-ups ("Oh, Roy had a glass chin and so-and-so had a lot of power, so Roy gets knocked out") or rating him on an all-time scale He IS the only middleweight champ to move up to win a heavyweight title in over a CENTURY. A guy with a GLASS jaw couldn't do that, whether or not the heavyweight was any good or not.
Tarver had his ****ing eyes closed when that punch landed. I like how you ignored the rest of my post too.
I hope that is your poor attempt at being funny, otherwise this is one of the dumbest posts i've seen here.
Good chin that got worse with age. Tarver hit him with a helluva shot in there 2nd fight, and Johnson didnt hit him on the chin, it was a temple shot.
Jones finally fought someone who could fight for a change. Jones said he wanted to fight Vlad, well, where is that fight?
Jones at the lighter weights had a very solid chin, as indicated not only by the big punches he took against guys like Toney, but by the way he fought. When he had an opponent hurt in the lighter weight classes, he really went after them. As he moved up, he became much more tentative as a fighter though. I think he knew that his chin wasn't excellent, and as such became more cautious. It wouldn't suprise me if he was hurt in sparring against bigger opponents, which served as a wake up call of some sort.
