Mayweather did the most of his work in a clustered grouping of late rounds. He gave the first half of the fight away and some of the late ones were competitive. Mayweather's counter right cross was the best punch in the fight, but it doesn't counter 6 rounds of getting your ribs and head pounded while returning very little.
Have i really, though? A hard body shot or punch to the temple is as good or better than a soft counter, clean on the chin. That is not a controversial opinion. It's the proper way of scoring.
It doesn't have to be a big power shot, just landing properly ie flush, on a scoring area, not glancing or partially blocked.
"Defensive ring generalship" is when you set traps and counter well. Like a skilled matador vs a bull. Being chased on the back foot and getting the ring cut off on you at will does not win you the "ring generalship" part of scoring. Mayweather is usually A++ in this area, but in this fight he was not the ring general. He looked desperate on the back foot in this fight.
So we agree, mostly. Surely a harder shot is a better one, as well. ***** test: Given what you are saying here, do you agree with the punch stats presented by Showtime?
I watched it twice and scored it the same each time; 115-113 Maidana. I gave Maidana five of the first six rounds and also rounds 8 and 12. It was a close fight, which ever way you scored it.
Anyone who voted for chino should have bought the ppv and watched in high def and also learn how to score a fight
That is exactly my score. I knew Maidana wasn't getting the decision though, you are going to work a damn near convincing shut out to convince the judges the cash cow didn't win.
For starters it would be one that lands. Marcos didnt land more than a handful of flush shots. You can also throw some of his aggression out because he was so close he was smothering himself.
Funny I see so many of these from the posters that scored it for Mayweather. It's disappointing and makes me believe that Mayweather may not have deserved the nod if so many of the people who apparently scored it for him have to try so hard to convince themselves.
And yet, Floyd was bloody and bruised, while Maidana looked like he had just done some easy laps in the pool after the fight.
Always look for the 8-4. That's what they say when they know they didn't win. Garcia: "I won 8-4" Bradley: "I won 8-4" Pimp C: "8-4" usually followed by a :deal and without any further explanation. Why 8-4? Well, 7-5 is a close score that leaves room for the doubt that they try to eliminate.
Boxing is scored on simple criteria, it really isn't anywhere near as difficult or as subjective as the hard of understanding and uninitiated think it is and make it out to be. Based on this criteria Mayweather clearly won the fight and anyone who thinks otherwise is either severely biased or doesn't know or understand how to score a fight. Simple.
