Gamboa's my favorite fighter right now but no way does he last with Sanchez, Sanchez by KO before the midway point

    A few things:

Sanchez is slightly over-rated because of his early death, especially in the power department. He wasn't a murderous puncher EXCEPT in stopping Gomez, who was moving up in weight. The rest of his fights were kind of smooth boxing clinics where he would never tire but also never hurt his opponent, so if he wins, guess what, its probably a decision (he beat Lopez to death over like 14 rounds, hitting him as cleanly as you can hit someone before getting that stoppage).

    Gamboa has WAY more power.

However, at this stage of his experience, I think Sanchez would have too much. We would need to see how Gamboa performs against some world class operators. I do think that Morales/Barera/Marquez are actually a shade above Sanchez, but we never really got to see how Sanchez would age. Gamboa is physicallity like no other, but I think he would definitely struggle against the greatest featherweights of the early part of this decade and probably lose unless he learns not to get tagged on that highly held chin.

So I don't think it would be a battle of knockdowns, more like a boxing clinic Sanchez would put on, completely nullifying Gamboa but maybe not having enough to put him away.

I dunno why you're laughing simp. Sanchez would beat Gamboa like a $5 hooker. Outside of handspeed, Gamboa has NOTHING over Sanchez. Sanchez was in a different class SKILL wise, had arguably more power in his hook, and was light years ahead in stamina and chin.

Boxing isnt all about flashy handspeed youngster.

And I'm a Gamboa fan, so dont try and call me a hater.

Gamboa is good but Sanchez is an ATG and was still young & improving.

Someone above said Sanchez wasn't a really big puncher, maybe not Julian Jackson type power no, but he had real offensive power at his weight.

The thing that makes me believe Sanchez rapes Gamboa is the toughness. Sanchez could take alot more than Gamboa can. Gamboa has been dropped by some pretty mediocre fighters, Sanchez gutted it out against some real greats. Whether or not Gomez was coming up in weight or not, I don't think it matters. Gomez was a murderous puncher, much more so than Gamboa. Gamboa is just explosive and quick, other than that hes a fairly sloppy, overly aggressive fighter.

Thanks for your votes guys, but I still think Yuriorkis takes Salvador. Yuriorkis is way faster, has knockout power in both hands and moves like a squirrel inside the ring. You can't hit what's not there, and Gamboa is always very difficult to hit clean ( constantly ) as he never stands still. This is why Salido couldn't hardly hit him and he was hitting Lopez at will. Sanchez while powerful, would also had a very hard time landing hard on Gamboa, while Gamboa's speed/power would have gotten the better of him. Plus, Gamboa was way better in the amateurs than Sanchez and amateur experience does count!

Nothing against Gamboa, but, you aware that Sanchez turned pro when he was like 15 or 16,aren't you?And btw, amateur experience doesn't count when you consider what people have accomplished as pros. And you're comparing Salido and Lopez to Sanchez. Please stop. And while you're at it,youtube Sanchez's fights, please.

:rofl Sanchez had one hellova 'fro. That's about the only thing his nephew has that's similar to the legend.

Right now at this point in Gamboa's Career I have to lean towards Sanchez. Yes, The Cuban is stronger, and faster but has questionable balance compared to "Chava". That's the reason Yuri has been dropped, it's his balance and trying to throw so many shots. Like Azumah Nelson who was stronger and faster than "Chava". Sanchez was never overwhelmed by strong, young, fast fighters; he was poised and landed very accurately.

I really think Sanchez had uncanny patience and a great ability to read his opponents movemnts to work against them. I truley believe Sanchez was still peaking and was improving. So we never saw how good he could be.

Just like Cuban Bon Bon said, "...If Gamboa would had defected at 20 years old he too would have been great at age 23 so it's not fair to compare them in that area..."

But one could also say well if Sanchez hadn't died so young he would of been much better. Sad we will never know. :-(

But we still have to see how Gamboa's career pans out. Bon Bon ask me again when Gamboa has 44 fights under his belt then we can really compare their acheivments. :good

I'm picking Sanchez by decision (but I don't like the battle of knockdowns part).
