I think Zhang fought a clever fight and his boxing last night was on point especially the amount of shots he slipped onto the gloves, arms and shoulders as well as his accurate punching but let’s not forget he’s a big guy and almost 40 years old so at some point he was going to tire. However Zhang did all the damage he needed to in the first 3 rounds and the fight was never going to go the distance as well as Zhang still landing shots right up to the stoppage.Joyce’s tactics always seemed to be that he thought he was going to take over in the second half of the fight and capitalise on Zhangs poor stamina, which was proven last night not to be the right game plan .
Was ringside for this. Zhang was puffing but so was Joe as the fight went on. Joe should not have kept pushing forward until the later rounds. He walked into too many powerful counters and they really connected. The power from Zhang's punches could be felt 25 yards away.
Zhang has an equally strong chin it seems, but I think his power is much more, he has a pretty good delivery for such a big guy as well.
I thought it was common knowledge that he isn’t a 12 round fighter, no ? He’s nearly 40, weighs about 20 st. Work it out. It really really isn’t difficult to understand that he has about 8 rounds in him, maximum.
Yes but a interim WBO belt holder noted for his stamina lost to Zhan who allegedly has weak stamina, i wonder which of those two fighters are happier and are seeing more clearly this morning.
This is heavyweight boxing. Of course both sides will "huff and puff". I wonder how many years heavyweight boxers shorten their life span in each fight.
Agree good win for Zhang. Please don't put him agains Wilder, I don't want to see him face down with his legs quivering.
If Zhang was huffing and puffing, he still landed that backhand 3 times in succession on Joyce's squashed tomato eye, which immediately after they tied up, the fight was over. So it's easy to think Joyce was coming on, but I saw it as Joyce was looking very active only because he felt the ref might stop the fight. I don't think he was that effective, however, and most definitely Zhang would have kept pinging that eye until it fell out. Sad but true.
Zhang was clearly tiring. Having spurts is a sign of gassing, not the opposite. His workrate was getting worse and worse, his defense getting looser, his hands were coming down. Fight was stopped early in rd 6. Nowhere near letting the fight conclude naturally.
Early stoppage? You Brits have got to be joking. Joyce's pitter patter was having no real impact on Zhang, while his eye was getting more gruesome by the minute. Zhang was tiring but he could still tee off with 5-10 heavy shots and Joyce was doing nothing to protect his eye. Joyce hopefully avoids long term damage and survives to fight another day. The proof is in your black pudding - Joyce didn't complain at all. He knew he was cooked.
