I remember Jon-Lewis Dickinson former British cruiserweight champion told me the first fight he got tested for was his British title fight. Went through prize fighter and everything with no tests.
It certainly seems a lot more commonplace at the top level than I thought. There's barely a deterrent for a needle mover (pardon the pun). Scary that we were 1 journalist away from a situation where a promoter was able to strong arm a governing body into sanctioning a fight after 2 failures without a hearing...it very nearly happened. It has to be an automatic 5 year ban for first offence. The responsibility must lie with the fighter to educate themselves on what is and isn't legal. No excuses like tainted supplements or meats, my brother spiked me or some obscure s&c coach doubling up as a chemist. 5 years 1st offence, life ban for second.
