Well Tubbs beat Page, and he wasn't ranked by Ring at all. Even then.

Same with Bonehugger, unranked when Spoon said he took a dive.

I guess Spoon could take a dive against Washington, too. Right?

Washington flattened Helenius. Should we watch highlights of Greg Page getting knocked out by Mark Wills (with his 5-5 record) twice and pretend it's Washington doing the punching?

Did I say it was not a good era? I can't remember. Oh well, NOT a good era.

Yeah, I've covered off these fights already.

    1) TO get their shots at the belt these guys had to beat ranked fighters. 2) To win the belt they had to beat a top five man.

There is literally zero proof that Washington is capable of doing any of this.

Of course! I mean it's probably a little more desperate than looking for the worst contenders you could find to match him with, but it's irreffutably possible. Hell, you could have got Areolla a ranking now by having Ruiz take a dive. Or just have Fury take a dive against Wilder. Make your boy champ!

...probably this is tipping over the edge into parody now.

I have absolutely no doubt at all you spend time doing this without my permission

Washington is barely a footnote. Continue to credit him with victories over prostate fighters paid off by the mob if it makes you feel good, but I don't think it's reasonable to ask others to do so, no.

    Great post.

    A pleasure to read.

I can’t stand it when people compare stats without applying any context.

Have I said today that Wilder has ONLY lost to the World Champion Tyson Fury?

Okay. Just wanted to get that in.

He didn't lose to (5 wins-5 losses) Mark Wills. He didn't lose to Rodney Bobick or Leroy Jones. Didn't draw with Ossie Ocasio. Didn't lose to Marvis Frazier or David Bey.

Only lost to the best, who he also floored four times.

Just wanted to remind everyone ... since we've been talking about guys who lose all the time so much.

This might surprise you, but drugs still exist and Tyson Fury is an admitted alcoholic and cokehead while Joshua, Whyte, and Ruiz aren't exactly choir boys.

You mean like leaving out Wilder won the National Golden Gloves, U.S. Amateur Championships, The Olympic Trials and a Bronze medal at the Olympics ... not to the mention the WBC Heavyweight title, a five year-10 defense title reign and a 12-year unbeaten streak?

Yeah, I hate when people leave stuff out.

But, back to Alfonzo Ratliff. :pipi

Remember when he fought the cruiserweight with one leg not once but twice?

But...but...people liked to eat and party back then. It's all Don King's fault.

    Ha!

Fury was nowhere near his best in the first fight.

    Have a word with yourself.

He’d fought 2 low level tune ups after shedding 10 stone, after a 3 year lay off.

Too bad it wasn't 1981 instead of 2018, and Wilder could've fought the #3 Ring rated 10-2-2 Leon Spinks instead of the #3 Ring rated Fury.

Yes, good thing Ronald Reagan won that "War on Drugs" in the mid-80s.

Nearly 40 years later and not a drug in sight.

It was also cool how Doctor Manhattan won the Vietnam War.

You’re saying that Wilder DEFINITELY would have beaten those guys, based on the low level stats that he acquired by beating lesser fighters.

You have said that Wilder would have won, as he had a title reign, yet those 80’s guys didn’t.

    No stylistic breakdowns.

    No context.

    Just a comparison of stats.

    Mind. Blown.

But the 80s are still considered unusually bad for these kinds of problems. If it wasn't, there wouldn't really be much of an argument in Wilder's favor that he'd be up against a bunch of unmotivated, inconsistent fighters.
