Almost every time a result in the rematch.

it matters when the fight is. If the fight is later and Kovalev has a comeback fight and someone gets back in the winning, then maybe he can win. But in that time Alvarez could improve and be even better, which I think he might get better. He is strong and a decent chin and he looks quick.

Alvarez faster this time. I think Kov is done. I feel like he'll retire. He should anyway..it's the perfect time for him really. He either doesn't have it or doesn't want it anymore and should get out before he gets hurt or has anymore unnecessary losses at the end of a pretty decent career.

The issue is he hasn't knocked out a former would champion in close to 3 years and it was a "no hope" stoppage vs Pascal. There was a lot that Kovalev did wrong in that fight and he could correct it but I think he might be too stubborn too. While I favour Alvarez in a rematch Kovalev could easily go for broke and stop him. or maybe win a very boring controversial decision. I just don't see him beating the other champs. I think the Nail would make him look ordinary at this stage of his career. sure he can fight on but we have to realise Kovalev will not be the best 175lbs fighter ever again.

Can't see Kovalev winning over 12 legitimately.

Kovalev needs to go all out in the first 6, and if he doesn't get the KO by the start of the 7th, retire on his stall and call it a day.

The sport is so transient, kovalev almost feels like a footnote in it right now, he was on top of the world only yesterday it feels.. A huge presence in the sport but now he's an underdog against Alvarez (who IMO isn't going to be a dominant champion) with 3 recent losses*.. Mad! The McGirt hook up has face palm emojis written all over it too.. What is Kathy doing! LOL Instinct tells me its game over for Kova... Quite sad really as i love watching him fight.

Sergey's second child (a daughter) was born in October. So he had to spend a lot of time with his older son (still a kid, 4 years old). Judging from his social media accounts, Kovalev is more concerned with opening his small businesses in Russia — opening a gym, selling merchandise, etc. (to be fair, that's in Moscow, so Sergey is just more like a remote coordinator) than training. From what I see, he's definitely looking past his boxing career...
The key to a successful rematch with Alvarez was/is to learn from the past mistakes and to train extremely hard. As it seems now, Sergey is far from it, unfortunately... :nono: There's still time, but I'm losing faith in him...

February might be the last time we see Kovalev in a ring... I don't think we'll see him carry on if he takes another loss here, it would be pointless! It's a huge legacy defining moment for him this in some ways. If he can overturn that result in his mid 30s nearly & regain a LHW title a third time then u can't really question his credentials or standing as a potential HOF fighter & a great at the weight then surely?

I mean let's look at some of the more recent 175lb champions.. Bhop, Tarver, RJJ, Calzaghe, Dawson, Johnson, Hill, Ward, Michalkzewski etc he's easily among them all right? Two are already HOFers! His resume could be:

    Bhop
    Pascal x2
Ward 1-1 (in most ppls eyes)
    Alvarez 1-1
    Chilemba
    Campillo
    Cleverly

    Etc

    3 time LHW champion..

That's a quality career. Can he do it? I'm not convinced.. Another trainer change, 3 losses*, mid 30s.. It's a big ask! I watched the last fight & he looked more stationary & flat footed than he used to do, doesn't use the ring like he used to either! Looked a bit fragile & too predictable, struggled with Alvarez's physicality & accuracy! He wudda blitzed that guy 4 years ago... He was really athletic, it all came so easily but he's not up on his toes & his punches don't quite have the snap of say a 2014/15 Kovalev.

I'd love to see him get redemption here because I am a huge fan & for a short period he was compulsive viewing, a brilliant seek & destroy LHW! They do say all great fighters have one last great performance in them but if I'm honest Alvarez beating him again won't be a surprise..

Rooting for him but not confident.

I dont think kovalev is hungry anymore which is why Alvarez beats him again. By KO
