Anybody else out there who picked GGG the first time but thinks Canelo will take the rematch? I think Canelo will be one of those boxers who does better in rematches. Add to that that at 35 GGG gets older by the day and Canelo may do better at 160 for his 2nd fight and I think its Canelo by fair UD. Cant forget about Canelo being the star and probably having one or two judges on payroll.

Canelo will dance around the ring and throw a few punches per round like he did in the last fight. He will try to show his beautiful boxing style to the crowd but forget that it won't help him to beat GGG. If you don't press the action then you will lose again. I'll bet my house on it.

I do think Canelo should press Golovkin more than he did in the first fight. I'd expect him to use movement early on much like last time, but then in the middle rounds try to actually get inside on Golovkin. By that I mean "gloves up, block a Golovkin jab, duck around it, dig in a body shot, follow up with a hook upstairs", make Golovkin back up. The next time slip the jab, get inside, land an uppercut inside, back up, circle, etc. I think if Canelo is going to win over the fans, he's got to have more moments where he steps into punching range, lands big punches and backs Golovkin up. If he doesn't do that, it's going to be hard to win convincingly enough for fans to accept Golovkin losing. I don't expect Canelo to come out like Ali did in Round 1 vs Foreman, where Ali just started trading with Foreman out the gate to everyone's surprise or anything. I'd be surprised if Canelo came out super aggressive like that, he usually starts all of his fights very measured and patient. But with all the controversy and with how he fought the first fight, he may want to prove a point that he can beat Golovkin at his own game (similarly to how he stayed on the ropes in the rounds 4 and 5 after being told that was a huge no-no vs Golovkin) And Canelo's not used to having rematches so there's a definite unknown as to how Canelo would come out in a rematch having already been in there with Golovkin.

There's a possibility that it could turn into a toe to toe war quickly though, which could actually surprise Golovkin not thinking Canelo will fight that way. This is where I think it's a difficult mental prepartion for Golovkin. If he goes into the rematch thinking Canelo is going to give him all that movement again, well Canelo could flip the script on him by taking the fight to Golovkin early which could surprise Golovkin. All it takes is one moment where Canelo decides to become the aggressor and backs Golovkin up for the fight to take a different trajectory. I wouldn't expect Canelo to fight that way in the opening round, but anything's possible. Golovkin has to prepare for the movement, he has to prepare to walk Canelo down for 12 rounds, but Canelo's had plenty of fights where he's been the aggressor. If Canelo really wants to make a statement, he has to grab the bull by the horns and really take the fight to Golovkin. I just think Golovkin will have learned from his mistakes in the first time, I doubt he's going to walk into the kind of uppercuts he walked into in rounds 6, 7 and 8. Canelo needs to create more of his own opportunities, but find a balance to it. Mix up the backwards and lateral movement with attempts to slip the jab and get inside on Golovkin. If Canelo wants more respect, he's got to find ways to back Golovkin up.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see more clinches in the rematch, even moments where both guys refuse to take a backward step out of pride. But Canelo can't abandon his advantages and his gameplan entirely either just to placate his haters. He knows that if he's too aggressive he could get himself into trouble. (he said something to that effect the other day). He's just gotta keep Golovkin off balance. Make Golovkin think he's going to be super-defensive, then surprise him by coming forward. After landing some hard shots, give Golovkin movement again. Just keep making adjustments that keep Golovkin guessing throughout the fight.

This post might just win you this month’s CST80 Award for “saying the most and knowing the least”. Of course, you’ll still have to beat CST80 himself, which we all know won’t be easy.

well I think that post you quoted just shows that the fight fan in me wants Canelo to take the fight to Golovkin, that there's a distinct possibility that Canelo is just fed up with controversey and wants to make a big statement. Canelo's made statements recently suggesting he's preparing to do that, that he's going for the KO. That's just talk, but at the same time Canelo undoubtedly wants to earn a legit victory. He doesn't want to be gifted a win without earning it, without proving he won to the fans. He doesn't want some controversial paper victory like his naysayers always accuse him of having. He wants to prove beyond any doubt that he's the MW king, so I think it's only natural for him to want to go for the KO. He's just gotta do it intelligently.

Given the fans reaction to the first fight and the judging in many of Canelo's fights, it may be better for Canelo to go out on his shield and get robbed by the judges or something as crazy as that sounds. I mean it just seems that winning a close decision that many fans don't think he deserved may not really help Canelo's reputation. What's gonna help Canelo's reputation the most is by going out and putting on a knock down drag out war with Golovkin either knocking Golovkin out cold or at least taking the fight to Golovkin. That's what's really gonna earn Canelo respect (at least on this forum lol). But at the same time, it is about the W. If Canelo walks out of that ring with those titles, that's really the ultimate goal. So there's a fine line between trying to placate your haters and going out there and winning the fight.

I mean most Golovkin fans want to see a Golovkin W more than anything, no matter how that happens, that's their only goal. Whereas with Canelo it seems to be more about "impressing Naysayers" which is hilarious but that's just the reality of it. So it's going to be interesting to see how Canelo fights Golovkin this time. Does he just try to outbox him again and try and win a decision by being the slick boxer, albeit in a way that the fans won't be satisfied, or does he actually take the fight to Golovkin trying to earn the fans respect Win or lose by how he fights (well probably only if he loses a decision but you get the point).

So you're argument is that Canelo doesn't want the fans to respect him? Canelo wants to be known as the guy who wins fights he doesn't deserve to win? You've got to be smoking some sh!t if you think any fighter doesn't want credit from the fans for his victories.

I think cameltoe will have gotten old and hide in a shell without throwing and power punches or combinations. Even less take control of the ring.

Canelo is now Floyd’s heir. He doesn’t care about fans, belts, legacy or crooked judges. Canelo thinks guys like you are tools. All he cares about is how he is going to separate you from your money. People can say what they want. He doesn’t care.

Some fans will never be happy with a result unless it's a knockout.
