Rocky Marciano vs Jack Dempsey

Dempsey in an absolute war, regardless of folks' opinions on the societal issues of his time.

 

Oversimplified perhaps but IF Dempsey, it’s early to mid otherwise Rocky over the long haul with a possibility of Marciano seeing Dempsey off late in the fight.

At his absolute, tear away best, I think maybe Dempsey takes this early to mid.

I’d bet on it - but ONLY as much as I could afford to lose.

This was always a contentious matchup that never failed to rise the blood in some.. My own two cent is that it goes to a mid round stoppage with Rocky still on his feet but unable to defend himself, or it cools down dramatically to a close points decision going either way.

 

Dempsey made a bloody mess out of Willard's face. Didn't he also break some facial bones? Anyway, Rocky's rather prominent nose wouldn't stand up to Dempsey's slashing, bashing style. I see a mid-round stoppage with Jack's arm being raised. Who knows though? I might change my mind the next 10 times this poll comes up.

 

Rocky by late KO after surviving brutal 6,7 rounds.

 

One could also say 37 year old Fireman Jim Flynn knocked Dempsey out cold in 1 round

Yeah but that was a fix.

 

Not necessarily. Dempsey himself said it was a case of him not being properly warmed up. Plus, he was dropped more than once by Firpo in the opening round so there's precedent for him getting caught early.

 

I always find it hard to call this one but of all the heavyweight match ups this is the one I’d most like to see.
I just find it virtually impossible to make a pick but I just lean towards Marciano in a battle of the ages.
