Would modern Deontay Wilder be too small for the 80s/90s HW divison?

    Thanks man.

Being correct is helpful for everyone regardless of their respective fortunes. So thank you.

His reach and punching power and physical strength could even up the score.

Wilder would have no hope against Ray "Skyscarper" Impelletiere.

@reznick let me ask was Tommy Hearns the same size as Roberto Duran?

I don't know how much strength he has compared to other guys, but he has the other two attributes in spades!

Would 215-229 lbs be too small to have an amount of success in the 80' and 90's? Of course not. Holmes, Tyson and Holy all weighed less most of the time.

Should we be surprised that someone weighing in the range of 215-229 lbs has achieved what Wilder has achieved in today's scene? Povetkin has a superior record, I'd say, and he has weighed in at similar weights. Haye had some success not long ago weighing less. So strictly looking at achievements relative to weight there certainly isn't anything astonishing about Wilder. There also isn't anything surprising about the fact that a HW that's usually somewhere around 225 lbs can hit very hard.

And is there anything surprising that someone who weighed in as light as 215 lbs could squeeze by an aging top 5 ranked guy like Ortiz in a very tough fight? Again no.

What doesn't come along often is someone who has Wilder's relatively low weight to his height but who punches as hard as he does. He's an outlier in that regard, as Hearns was at WW.

Yeah. And all of this is very obvious, so I don't really understand what the argument is about.

If we're just talking about relative size then Wilder = Jermain Taylor or Kelly pavlik at 160
And Joe Louis at 216= Duran at 160

So what is this thread about? That at one point in his career Joe Louis put on enough weight to weigh as much as an unusually light version of a 2018 belt holder?
Ok but what does that prove exactly?

I don't know. The other day there was a thread by Reznick about how few jabs Frazier landed in FOTC. Don't know if that was meant to prove a point either. Perhaps it wasn't, but I get the feeling that things are turned very black and white. If you say "the jab is generally very useful in boxing" there comes a "hah, you're wrong, since this particular ATG didn't use the jab much" or if you say "a substantial advantage in height and weight is often good to have" there comes a "hah, the fact that this very tall guy doesn't weigh super much but still is somewhat succesful shows that your total obsession with size is all wrong".

I think it's a somewhat convoluted and tortuous route to Marciano and his ability to handle SHV's
ie If a 216lbs man can do it ,why can't a ? lbs man [taking Rocky's highest recorded weight for a fight,]but I've been wrong before!

It could be Wilders body type. William Sheldon back in the 40s classified 3 particular body types.

Ectomorphs were the tall, skinny type

Mesomorph were the naturally muscular type of about average to slightly above average height. Female mesomorph tend to be voluptuous

Endomorphs were individuals who tended towards being fat

And bone structure had much to do with it as well. Although, Sheldon said that it was rare that you'd find a human being that fit just one body type. Most people are mixtures of at least 2 of the above. Wilder, from his height, bone structure and muscleclature looks like he'd be a mixture of mesomorph and ectomorph. That type of mix generally has high pound for pound strength when adjusted for body weight

It´s general satirism, and to be exact, much more valuable than 99,78% hero worshipping account mishmash.

Crippled? You want to see something crippled, or better still delirious lunacy ? https://www.boxingforum24.com/threa...-or-riddick-bowe.585492/page-74#post-19193163

Claiming 40s Foreman "put on functional weight" and "old man strength" Joe Louis coming at the same size as Wilder?

Yep, I guess its me who´s the kid here

What about sticking to https://www.fanfiction.net/forums/book/Fairy-Tales/ or https://www.theflatearthsociety.org/forum/index.php?board=10.0 when creative energy urges?
Or useful deeds, like video editing?

    Oh totally, real valuable.
You could probably start a blog about it and scoop up like 30 followers.
