Just to clarify, Galento was not one of Louis' opponents on "his Bum Of The Month Club program." Galento fought Louis on June 28, 1939. Louis "Bum of the Month" tour started on Dec. 16, 1940, in Boston against Al McCoy and ended on May 23, 1941, in Washington D.C. against Buddy Baer. . Furthermore, Galento was in no sense a "bum," if one bothers to look at his record. The National Boxing Association rated him as No. 1 heavyweight contender for all of 1939. Ring Magazine rated him No. 5 when he fought Louis. During that stretch, he had defeated some pretty good heavyweights to earn his ranking, including Al Ettore, Lorenzo Pack, Leroy Haynes, Charley Massera, Nathan Mann, Otis Thomas, Natie Brown, and Abe Feldman.
No because in his era that match wouldn’t have been sanctioned, so there was no opportunity for it to occur. Who knows, RJJ May have out boxed him.

I realize that the "bum of the month" comment was only a minor part of your otherwise legitimate post, but I just felt the urge to set the record straight. One misconception often leads to anther!
Never in my life should i have thought to see such vile know-nothings attempt by considerably foolish measures to try and besmirch the good name of a fine operator of the sport of boxing. Tony Galento was an excellent fighter gifted specifically in the intricate art of brawling. And seeing as there are so few eras in heavyweight history of which inspired top fighters to learn and master the subtle skills of heavy fighting Galento should fare quite well so against many such opponents. He also had a suitable physique made perfect for his job. One should not give too much credence to vile unfounded rumors lest the world around us give way to pointless delusions with terrible consequences and strange thoughts and dreams.
